This Thursday I visited the Institute for Language and #Folklore in Gothenburg and I had a lovely time! We got to know about the tradition of ”Påskkärringen” (The Easter Hag) and transcribed old handwritten documents together with other enthusiasts. Here’s a drawing of the devil by C. M. Bergstrand.

Currently preparing for my thesis in #history #didactics and reading about applications of #folklore in school. There are many interesting ways to teach about folklore and history; the potential for its implementation into curriculum are plenty!

In #Swedish #Folklore one could undertake the Year Walk around Christmas or New Years to get a glimpse into the future.

The Year Walker was faced with mortal peril from dangerous Vaesen in the night, such as the monstrous Gloson.

My fiancé truly knows me. What else could be a better Christmas gift than books about the devil in #folklore and yokai in Japan?

Merry Christmas! 🎄🌟

In Swedish #folklore, a Spiritus was a small snake, roach, scorpion or the like kept in a small wooden box. It could be conjured using dark magic or be given by Satan in exchange for one’s soul. The Spiritus would bring its owner wealth and magic. It had to be fed with spit every day.

In Swedish #folklore, if a person died a violent death or was buried in unhallowed ground, people believed they’d be transformed into a Ghast after death. The Ghast was a dangerous undead creature that could attack the living by hugging them, making them sick. This was called being gastkryst.

1/4 In #Nordic #folklore people told stories of a supernatural creature (a vaesen) called the Milk-Hare, Puke-Hare or Bjära which could be conjured using black magic. A Bjära could be used by a witch or wizard who’d obtained these dark magics by Satan to steal milk from neighbouring farmer’s cows.

Earlier this year I picked up an interest in #numismatics. This is my favourite coin so far. A #MarcusAurelius #Denarius (RIC III Marcus Aurelius 311) from 174-175 CE.

Weight: 3,17 g
Diameter: 18,5 mm

Obverse reads: M ANTONINVS AVG TR P XXIX

Reverse reads: IMP VII COS III
