Each and every person who normalized the idea that this is a "public square" and therefore all people have an open invitation to be an ass in the replies of strangers clearly never learned how to respect anyone but themselves.

Many people are suggesting that it's impossible to protect privacy, so it doesn't matter which app you use.

Others are trying Rednote because they are, reasonably, tired of tech oligarchies.

Both are understandable reactions to the surveillance capitalism ecosystem. But there's more we can do. 🧵
“People looking for alternative social media apps should be cautious about the privacy implications of sharing information with an app that has not yet seen substantial public scrutiny outside of China,” EFF’s @cooperq.com told @theverge.com.
As Americans flock to RedNote, privacy advocates warn about surveillance
Privacy advocates are also warning against using the app.

F it, here's the email addresses of senior Meta execs. If they want to greenlight pogroms against us, they should at least hear from us.

Lindsay Elin, VP Public policy lindsaye@meta.com

Roy Austin, VP Civil Rights royaustin@meta.com

Cynthia Deitle, General Counsel cmdeitle@meta.com
NEW: I've obtained internal Meta docs revealing an array of sample posts that are now allowed under new hate speech rules. Examples include calling children "trannies," “Jews are flat out greedier than Christians," and “immigrants are grubby, filthy pieces of shit”

Leaked Meta Rules: Users Are Free to Post “Mexican Immigrants Are Trash!” or “Trans People Are Immoral”
Facebook now allows attacks on immigrants and trans people, and posts like “Mexican immigrants are trash!” and “I’m a proud racist.”

I'll also add when people express these "society has abandoned men we have nothing we're not even allowed our hobbies" takes, the last thing they actually want is a return to traditional masculinity. because traditional masculinity would simply tell them to get over it and stop being a little bitch
as someone who has struggled with feeling like a 'failed' man for much of my life *entirely* due to expectations of masculinity set by other men, I can't overstate the harm to the male psyche caused by this culture of endless doombaiting about men being helpless victims of a feminist/LGBT society

Bumping this up... the Kids Online Safety Act is racing forward again. This bill could be used to censor the internet and drive out LGBTQIA+ people as well as abortion info.

Even if we can't stop it, we can get the Senate to make it much less shitty. (e.g., no blank check for state AGs to sue.)
Bad news... Snap, the maker of Snapchat, has endorsed the Kids Online Safety Act. They probably think the costs of compliance will drive upstart competitors out of business.

The good news? We can still fight. At the very least, the Senate could make the bill less awful.
