i try to code, sometimes i even write 🤦‍♂️ just a lot of tech stuff
As a longtime Android user, I didn't expect to like the 2025 iPhone lineup, yet now I wield the MacBook-iPad-iPhone trifecta.

This is my 3608-word take on why the base iPhone 17 made me leave my Galaxy S23 Ultra, after years of Android.

iPhone 17: From a Galaxy.
The iPhone 17 is not revolutionary, but it made me rethink what a phone is in 2025.

Using it to generate a baseline alt-text for my iPhone 17 article and it’s great, discussing parts of the image that I didn’t actually notice until I zoomed in.

Ever since I’ve had this feed, I haven’t gone back to Discover (sorry @bsky.app!), with the Following feed being my backup if I want something this algorithm doesn’t provide.

i think i finally have my photos for the article❗️

also shoutout to Moment Pro Camera ii, giving me back control (and lots of choice) over what is usually the black box called  Smart HDR 5 :)
i thought i'd miss my old Samsung phone more, but i guess not??? the apple ecosystem is working 🤦‍♂️

also i'm writing about the iPhone 17 and my whole switch experience, its about 3.3k words long and the only reason i haven't published it, is that it needs photos.

I installed ChatGPT on my phone after seeing it be #2 on the App Store, and ofc they have a Wrapped too 🤦‍♂️

Anyways somehow I’m in the first 0.1% of users, despite the app deleted from my phone almost all of the year.

Passkeys are nice, had they replaced passwords and been better adopted (looking at you Android 🤦‍♂️).

Unfortunately they became the latest attempt at becoming a new standard, living alongside passwords. Also trying to explain to a user that a passkey can’t be simply transferred will be a headache.

@signal.org is an actual secure messaging service. There’s a reason why it’s always in the news being used by some politician 😂

But I think having @atproto.com apps link directly to actually secure messengers rather than try reinvent the wheel (in Rust ofc) would be better overall.
One exciting idea for bringing E2EE secure messaging to AT apps could be to make it easy for users to switch back-and-forth to secure messaging apps like @signal.org, @germnetwork.com, @xmtp.bsky.social

Signal has `https://signal.me/#p/+12345678901` style deep links which could be expanded upon.
1/3 Secure messaging is far more than adding E2EE with MLS.

You also need identity and key directories, per-device keys, verification UX, group controls, encryption at rest, backups, recovery, multi-device sync, safe push notifs, metadata controls, abuse handling, audits, and all hardened clients.

I do hope Intel and AMD laptops get faster, Apple needs competition because their M series is just too good.

At the same time, I wouldn’t mind more MacBooks out there, more mainstream Windows competition. Linux devices too 🫡

📢 v1.113 is rolling out now!

This release focuses on fixing bugs and improving the stability of the app. We also fixed an issue some of you reported about the app locking up while watching fullscreen videos.

With that done, we have some bigger things planned to kick 2026 off right — more soon!

unpopular opinion: most people will keep using it, even if it changes drastically after this. social media preferences are very locked in now, it’ll take the entire service to shut down before people move.
Discord filed confidentially for an initial public offering, according to people familiar with the matter, adding to a rapidly growing pipeline of venture capital-backed tech listings. bloom.bg/4plpBlz

There’s something about @zed.dev that I really like but I can’t figure it out. It just feels light.

I do use the AI integration, but I also really love being able to just turn it all off from a single toggle.

The number one thing I've been hearing from people in tech lately is, basically, "How the hell am I supposed to work in this industry anymore?" Though most folks are kind of afraid to say it out loud. So I wrote about how to think about it: www.anildash.com/2026/01/05/a...

I followed @codewithbeto.dev’s video on making a React Native/Expo Pokédex, and with a bit of extra polishing with FlatList, it actually looks really nice.

It’s my ever first React Native project. In the future maybe I’ll add more features :)

Hi, I’m Sean, looking to join the bigger tech world 📱

I was huge on Android for years, until I made the move to iOS and MacOS this year. Linux > MacOS > Windows!

Currently fixated on mobile dev, particularly React Native, TypeScript and @expo.dev.
