Heat pumps done right! 😍

Decarbonization should be profitable to the customer 💸

Don't spend your life savings on a heat pump. Instead, use a heat pump to make savings on your energy bills 😌

The crazy thing is that they already get to vote, but turnout is only about 12k people

We have no idea what the population actually is, but people who have visited say that the amount of uninhibited dwellings is more like 90%, not 50% as 300k would imply

Rooftop Solar is the Climate Jackpot ☀️💸

Europe already has tens of billions of euros of tax money earmarked for the climate transition, and I believe that subsidizing rooftop solar is the best way to spend it, by a wide margin

Finally someone is talking about this. I've been concerned about Chinese inverters for years

I found only one (!) installer offering European-made (Romanian) inverters running Taiwanese software. It should be good in principle, but I'm not convinced

Italy finally fixed its numbers, so I can make charts with the entsoe data again

Interestingly enough, the increase here appears to have nothing to do with the lower gas prices, and everything to do with the lower amounts of rain

In case anyone forgot that the US has made nuclear threats against the rest of NATO earlier this year

Has Iran committed itself to nuking Israel any harder than Russia has committed itself to nuking Europe?

I'm not sure. If no, then Israel is clearly the aggressor

Europe is back as a global superpower.

Welcome to the age of multipolarity,
It didn't have to happen.

You could make the boilers so small, that you have one in each home!

Run on cheap natural gas while it's available, and when Russians bomb the gas grid, switch to your off-grid propane tank (don't forget to change the settings to the propane profile)

Turns out 20,000 companies account for 99% of the emissions that would be covered under the law, so the other 200,000 have been ruled de-minimis

Sounds p efficient to me

Seems like a reasonable hypothesis that some fraction of the solar inverters (the older ones?) did the Odessa thing, while another fraction didn't

If correct, it would mean that old inverters are more susceptible to this than spinning mass is, but new inverters are less susceptible, right?

Romania also shows electrical battery discharge, but since it also has no charge, I assume these batteries charge behind the meter

I've found one article that I believe describes such a co-located battery system on a solar farm, but idk if there are more 5/7

Same in Romania. I found articles from 2014 saying that the first pumped hydro facilities have come online, and they seem to check out from satellite imagery, but they don't show up at all on grid data, not even on the local website

I'm guessing they're bundled here, but who knows 4/7
April 27, 2025 at 9:42 PM
Also, notice how there is hydro pumped storage discharge, distinct from hydro reservoir, but there is no hydro pumped storage *charge*

Is the charge treated as regular load? Is it subtracted from hydro? Does it happen behind the meter? 🤷 who knows 3/7
April 27, 2025 at 9:42 PM
I initially doubted that it's batteries, because they would make a peak in the morning as well, but other types of storage also only show an evening peak, so it checks out 2/7
April 27, 2025 at 9:42 PM
The sun in Bulgaria has a little 2nd sunrise in the evening 😊

I'm assuming this is on-site battery storage co-located with solar, charging behind-the-meter during the day, and discharging to the grid in the evening

It's annoying that these datasets are getting more dirty over time... 1/7

Point-of-use Water Heaters should be in Every Home.

I've made a video about this before, but this is the definitive edition, after almost 4 years of using them in my own home

This is how you electrify sinks. No other option is worth considering.

This error for Italy is so big it messes up the whole EU data

Scholz really said "this shit's garbage" and then both of these markets inflected at the threat of regulatory intervention

I want to dismiss this as trader schizophrenia, but it has been holding for 2 weeks

Anyone have an explanation for this?

Energy revenues should not be going up as far as I can tell, and I haven't heard of new capital controls

Could this be related to the civilian population and companies reducing their imports for whatever reason?

It's not about the skin. Pedestrians are usually hit when they're in front of the car, and the front of the F-150s looks about as hard as it gets

I seem to recall UKIP rebranding itself as a free-speech party after Brexit, opposing the same hate speech laws that recently put a bunch of people in prison, but the electorate simply didn't care about this

Am I remembering correctly?
