When A/B tests are inconclusive, we like to let them run for longer “just in case.”

No, you’re wasting time.

If the difference was big enough to matter to your business, you’d know already.

The math:
Easy statistics for A/B testing and hamsters
A/B testing tools often lie about whether something is “statistically significant.” Here’s an extremely simple, mathematically sound formula to compute it for yourself.

If you are a Rails developer, the best thing you can do is clone Campfire, Fizzy, and Writebook locally and use them as examples of good code. Read the code, learn the right way to do things.

Movie you've watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (Wars nor Trek), LOTR, or Marvel, Disney Animated or Pixar.

Good on Penn Jillette. Having to come to terms with your entire political identity and philosophy being wrong is not easy and most people could never do it.

About 2 years ago an LLM machine would cost about $6,000 (a maxed out apple studio)

I think now with somewhat better small models, maybe $2000 for a used apple studio)

I can still buy a lot of tokens for $2,000 or $6,000

If I learned one thing developing enterprise-y software, it’s that search is surprisingly hard. The fact that Google docs search is so bad should have been a dead giveaway.
if microsoft just made outlook search not suck they'd see triple the productivity gains of any AI integration

Watching Chernobyl. Engineer: the core exploded. Manager: can't happen. Engineer: but it did. Radiation meters are maxed out. Manager: Don't believe you. Let's form a committee!

No wonder that country failed.

AI doesn't make my normal work easier. Ok, it does, but not by much. Where the LLMs shine is on the work that I am unfamiliar with. Fixing my friend's css issue for example: A day of research or 15 minutes with an LLM. This is where the LLM shines.

Watching video about Porsche in trouble because they went all in on EVs. Video is stipulating that customers don't want EVs because they lack "soul". But half way through the video they say the Taycan breaks often and is crazy expensive to fix. Maybe it isn't about "soul" and is about reliability.

Sitting next to a 3 person group that is deploying doggy daycare franchises. I wish I had a buzz word bingo game to share with my wife. The seriousness of the conversation is astounding.

2017 was peak car era. Before that the tech wasn't there. After that the buttons are gone. +-5 years based on Make.

The funeral industry is just a bunch of worthless nothings. They do the bare minimum. Highly recommend just not dying, it's the easiest way.

I mean yes this is funny, but the fact that these unconstitutional stormtroopers are so directionless that they literally stand around waiting for random nonwhite delivery guys to bike past them is just pathetic. No mandate, no mission, no clue. Just racism.
ICE attempted
and failed to disappear a food delivery guy.
It needed to be scored.

Ages ago, when I was still a student, I taught myself Ruby on Rails for my senior thesis and fell in love. Fifteen years later, and I’ve used Rails at every job I’ve ever held in the tech industry. Fifteen years, and I still love Rails! But there’s something rotten at its core, and we share a name.

Anthropic has two different ways to login to Claude: console.anthropic.com and claude.ai. They aren't the same. I go looking for billing information and I always try claude.ai first and it is never there. So annoying.

When chatting with my LLM I will give it an instruction and then follow up with, "Just say Ok." I don't need a description of how my instruction was a good idea.

I wonder if this is a good practice or not.

My job is dealing with stupid government software procurement shit, but this may be the dumbest government software procurement shit I have ever seen.
The Air Force and Navy are poised to cancel two nearly complete projects worth about $800 million because they want Salesforce and billionaire Peter Thiel's Palantir, to have a chance to win similar projects. The result could be a costly do-over.

I spent too much time in a car commuting to work. If I have to travel more than 10 minutes it isn't worth it.

And 10 minutes may be too long.
