the church wasn't actually the main perpetrator of witch hunts since they didn't really (for the most part) believe in them, most executions were town carried, so most accusations came from neighbors, family etc... it was usually towns hiring "finders" and not through the church

yes but their numbers were pale in comparison, and usually having a supposed "witch" in the family was a big factor, so it still came mostly to women

to survive, as simple as that. Aizetsu on the other hand is not only physically starved but also has emotional/psychological hunger, which she both can't define and can't fullfill. she can fake emotions but not get them. Its an undefinable and unfullfillabe goal. but she DOESN'T realize it. so...
