And a wrinkle: one option is a publicly operated Bluesky PDS+relay+moderation layer. Bluesky allows subscribing to moderation services that filter your feed. If federal or state govt operates a moderation service that is opt-in (or opt-out), does that affect whether speech protection applies?

Our culture is unfortunately dependent on rich people like Redstone to platform voices against fascism like Colbert. That's a responsibility that they took through aggressive expansion and acquisitions. We need to show them what their responsibility means by showing them where their money comes from

Whatever the motivation, the timing is terrible.

1. This makes it look like critical voices can be silenced, even prominent ones.

2. May 2026 takes Colbert off the air at about the start of midterm season. Midterms are a **big deal**. Trump is already attacking fair elections from multiple angles.

OTOH I'm told that if the marshals are not an option the courts have the authority to deputize?

I don't have the background to understand all the implications. The provision prohibits using allocated funds to enforce many contempt citations. Enforcement is via the Marshalls, which are part of the DoJ. So perhaps the courts aren't involved in funding decisions, either in theory or in practice.
