I just completed "Reactor" - Day 11 - Advent of Code 2025 #AdventOfCode adventofcode.com/2025/day/11

This was one where my approach was right, but my desire for output defeated any attempt at a properly optimized algorithm.

I thought about coding up something to minimize the function, but took the opportunity to learn a new tool instead.

Plotting the input made the answer feel obvious, I just kept getting all the math wrong.

I had some trouble with semantics on part one, but modification for part two was trivial.

Not too difficult, but I kept messing up my state maintenance because I wanted to do the visualization.

This one was frustrating. My code gave the wrong answer. Code from two different users on Reddit gave the same wrong answer. Finally, a third user's was right.

Why? I don't know yet.

Going through my father’s things I found my grandmother’s report card, circa April 1916. She got a poor mark in “deportment,” which is what they called “Social emotional growth” then. Her parents were probably mad — at the mark, not at the concept of deportment, because they weren’t morons.
