I also distinctly remember what I told "Santa" I wanted for christmas.

It was a soft ballerina doll I had seen (don't remember if in a magazine or a store), that was about the same size as me (at the time). Just that. Nothing else.

(When asked if I wanted anything else, I'd "no, that's all")

(my mom still has the photo, of course! She always said I looked like I could be one of Santa's little elves, sitting on the footstool like that)

Nothing whatsoever could convince tiny me to sit on mall santa's lap.

I distinctly remember my aunt saying something like, "What, are you chickening out?"
Little me replied, "Yeah. I'm chickening out."

So, mall santa let me sit on his footstool instead.

A fond holiday memory of mine:
(I was really young at the time. like 4 or younger)

My aunt (one of several) and uncle took me to get a photo taken with "Santa". We stood in line, and when it was my turn, I REFUSED to sit on mall santa's lap, no matter what anyone said or did.

Can confirm, right down to the aluminum can chewing and the nervous harmonica-ing XD

Which changed my disposition from "hiding behind the barbarian/rogue and bard/wizard, being terrified of creep" to "really amused at how these events turned out, feeling very safe and grateful"

I've got so much to say about how fandom anti culture on the Internet really fucks with moral scrupulosity OCD, POCD, and confession compulsions. and takes advantage of people that deal with those types and those urges.
