Science and engineering nerd with a soft spot for cyberpunk, TTRPGs, and VR technologies.
I can't stop thinking about how I fucked up at work and how it feels like every week brings a new way for colleagues to tell me I'm shit and that's okay, for management to fuck us over with shit planning, or for another department to complain about us. It's so emotionally draining.

Well, this is a new one: the sun through my lounge window slightly melted and cracked some of the plastic of my mouse.

I guess I am old now? My coworker (younger than me) didn't know what Bleach was. 🥲

Today is a good day. I saw a skink in the local botanic gardens.

Working on using my 3d printer more. This guy came out pretty well this time. Now I have a new webcam guardian.

I learned last night that The Hobbit is an example of a book that is faster to read than watching the movie.
At an "average" reading speed of 300 words per minute, it should take around 5 hours.
The Hobbit movies combined are around 8.

You know what's fun? Finding a camera among your grandparents' things, developing the film, and discovering the pictures are of complete strangers!

Making a post about favourites reminded me that I read a couple cool books recently:
- A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge, a space opera with cool alien concepts
- The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness, an adolescent modern fantasy where our protagonists are *not* the chosen ones

So... humans are approximately 100 Watt appliances.

100 Watts is 360 kilojoules per hour, or 8640 kJ per day. At 4.18 joules per calorie, that's just under 2100 kcal per day.

While everyone has different calorie needs, naturally, 2100 kcal per day is close to a typical adult male's needs.

I am playing an Anadi (spiders that can turn human) summoner in my pathfinder 2e game. At the end of a recent session he ended up getting a prehensile tail grafted onto him.

Question: which form, if not both, gets the graft?

Because the spider is the "true" form, and human is a personal "disguise".

Stopped by the bakery on a whim while doing errands and ran into my highschool physics teacher. Recognised me after nearly 15 years and offered to stay in touch. Absolute legend in a small world.

I found my old MP3 player when cleaning my room. More than half of the music on it is stuff I no longer have the CDs for or that I got off of friends. High school nostalgia here I come.

I have this weird situation where the intersection of my friends that went to university and my friends that are reliably around to hang out is increasingly the friends who lack ambition. Some of my more motivated friends never even thought about uni. While I have theories, it still feels strange.

Wanted to share my attempt at making a shock mount for my microphone because it has a weird shape. I am generally pretty happy with the result. The jury's still out on if it helps the sound much, though.😅 #3DPrinting #CAD

I've been interested in DIY full-body tracking for VR etc. IMUs are the go-to if cameras or similar aren't wanted, but can drift over time. I was wondering about using 3-axis magnetic compasses instead since they should be immune. Turns out 9-DoF IMUs have magnetometers for this very reason!
