National Emergency Briefing on the climate & nature crisis www.nebriefing.org | Science communicator | former manufacturing CEO & business consultant | Moog 🎹
Thank you for doing this.
It's lunacy that the UK is committing billions to expanding gas power stations with carbon capture, whilst ignoring the vast upstream emissions caused by the extra imported gas.
A similar story with bio-energy at #Drax - simply ignoring the destruction to forests overseas.
November 7, 2025 at 9:03 AM
Forces trying to keep us locked into expensive gas & oil have shifted their argument.

Now the dramatic effects of climate change are so clear, they’re trying cast doubt on the solutions.

Another reason the National Emergency Briefing on 27th Nov is long overdue.

2️⃣ They've added "Growth" to the report name but make no mention of limits to growth on a finite planet.

This is worryingly deaf to the science with news that we've now crossed 7 of 9 critical planetary boundaries, presenting grave danger to life on Earth.

The UK Gov has published the Carbon Budget 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 Delivery Plan today.

Two major concerns right away.

1️⃣ They haven't even discussed reviewing the 4th & 5th Carbon Budgets: targets taking us through the critical next 8 years which were set over a decade ago and fall FAR short of what's needed.
October 29, 2025 at 5:54 PM
Wow - just 3 times that saving would pay to eliminate fossil fuels for a 100% clean energy system.

Gov must find the courage to say a firm ‘No’ to the lobbyists with a wartime scale rollout of renewables.
October 28, 2025 at 7:30 AM
The Gov said above 1.5°C we could "lose control of our climate for good". But @thecccuk.bsky.social now warns that we should prepare for at least 2°C by 2050.

Such a shift in just 4 years.

This is why more and more MPs are signing up to attend the National Emergency Briefing www.nebriefing.org

Open AI's Sam Altman says AI will be powered by gas in the short term: www.desmog.com/2025/10/13/o...

But let's be clear. Gas isn't a 'bridge fuel' - it's a highway to climate hell.

As attribution science advances, could Altman face legal action?
October 20, 2025 at 7:30 AM
29 international COP climate talks have failed to deliver.

What's needed now is leadership. One major nation to honestly level with the public - then launch a wartime scale emergency program to electrify its economy, cutting emissions and making people better off.

The UK Gov’s expert advisers have shown that investing to transiton from expensive gas to clean energy will save the UK nearly £40 billion every year!

Most people can’t afford the up-front investment, but the UK absolutely can.

Tackling climate change isn’t just about protecting people.
October 5, 2025 at 7:15 PM
Investing to transition entirely to clean energy will save the UK nearly £40 billion every year, and make ordinary people better off. It’s all about framing.
October 4, 2025 at 1:17 PM
Supporters of new gas power stations with carbon capture argue that the Climate Change Committee says we need them.

But here's the CCC Chair saying it's a bad idea. New science shows they'll drive more imports of LNG which has huge upstream emissions along its international supply chain. #CCS

Are you sure? Look at who funds Reform, and it’s no doubt similar with Trump. Fossil fuel interests sow division to minimise the chance of real climate action.

And people are being hit by high energy costs driven by high gas prices, and high food prices driven by extreme weather.
September 30, 2025 at 9:21 AM
The fossil fuel industry is fuelling societal conflict to distract from climate action.

There's so much to worry about right now, but we need to focus on climate change before it's too late.

2️⃣ Polls show that many people underestimate the grave danger posed by global heating and nature collapse.

We can only rise to the challenge if we face it. It's essential that MPs and decision makes are fully briefed.

UK Gov experts have shown that ending fossil fuels will save the UK nearly £40 billion a year and rising.
Electrification saves all the heat wasted from burning gas & oil.

The £319 billion investment needed is only 8x what the Gov spent shielding users from high gas prices in 2022/3. Bargain! 🧵1/2
September 14, 2025 at 3:10 PM
Thanks Dominic. It did have me scratching my head :)

BTW here's my animation of the CCC's modelling of the pathway to net zero, showing how ending fossil fuels will save the UK nearly £40 billion a year, and rising.

That's just 8x what Gov spent in winter 2022/3 because of the gas price spike.

What if we treated the threat of climate & nature breakdown like the pandemic threat, with an official non-political science briefing for the nation?

Yes, though I'm very focused on LNG because Norwegian imports will dry up in line with UK gas production as the North Sea declines, and because US LNG is incredibly polluting.

Roughly a quarter of the gas we burn in the UK is currently imported as shipped LNG, and rising.
September 3, 2025 at 8:50 AM
Badenoch knows that almost all of our gas will be imported by 2050. Most of our imports come from American fracking ops as costly shipped LNG.

Doubling down on gas makes us dangerously dependent on the USA.

Is her pro-gas stance really about securing Trump's support for the next election?

The Government's expert adviser says that investing to upgrade from fossil fuels will save the UK nearly £40 billion a year, and rising. Electrifying everything avoids all that heat lost burning gas and oil.

Electrification isn’t a cost. It’s the smartest investment we can make.

France does make it into BBC's headlines though - apparently there's a "scandal gripping France" over how pure Perrier bottled is....
