So apparently creators only capture about 2% of of the surplus they create!
This figure is so shockingly low that economists have suggested that the welfare-maximising marginal top rate of income tax should be reduced up to.. a negative 26%!

I pushed a repo with canonical Rails 8 Copilot Chat instructions for VS Code. If you’re working with the new Rails stack and using Copilot, this should save you some time.

Any tips on building a programmatic meta/open graph image? The app is built with #rubyonrails if that is relevant.

I did the same thing. In fact I used Grok to help me write the reason 😂

The support for AfD was a crossing the Rubicon moment, and the recent anti NATO push is beyond the pale.

What a shame. I’m the target audience for electric cars, twitter, and would even end up buying Starlink in the future. 🤷‍♂️
I just canceled my Twitter premium subscription.

Someone on an average wage in Spain - €1,000 net/month - pays 50% of their income in taxes, between social security and income tax. On top of that, they pay about 20% in indirect taxes on consumption.

🚀 Rails devs, I'd like your thoughts!

I'm wondering if it's worth adding a fixture dump method to Rails for generating YAML fixtures directly from the dev DB. Handy for complex tests!

Read the full proposal and pitch in with your feedback & ideas!

I write a newsletter where I share three interesting things once a week.
In the latest issue I shared a Chaos Computer Club talk on AI self awareness, an essay by a former Palantir employee reflecting on the company, and an excellent piece on defining British values. 👇

How do you create fixtures from the development database? This is one approach from Stackoverflow but surely there's a standard convention? #rubyonrails

Did you know it only costs an employer in Lithuania $75K to give someone a PPP-adjusted disposable income of $100,000, while in Belgium it costs $200K?

I've made some UI changes to the calculator to facilitate some of these comparisons.

I've started building a #ruby wrapper for the Substack API. Still very early days and contributions are welcome! Hope you find it helpful.

Elon supports the Nazi-harbouring AfD. Bluesky is full of far left nutcases justifying murder.

I just want somewhere to talk about tech, progress, and building in public without political lunatics. Where do we go? #buildinpublic

What a year it’s been! 🚀

Toyed with some experiments—an earthquake starter pack, premium custom GPTs—but realised PopaDex holds the most promise. Lessons learned: chasing every idea dilutes focus. Simplicity and customer feedback are everything. 💡

Ever wondered how much of your salary you actually take home? Perhaps you'd like to know how much it would cost to employ someone in another country and what their disposable income would be.

What’s the best way to calculate cost of employment, employer social security, employees social security, and income taxes, given disposable income and the rates for each country?

I’m thinking of having tax curves for common rates in the database and then doing a binary search loop. #buildinpublic
