I wonder if they did A/B testing and realised threatening works better.

It would be a really interesting study for them to vary the language and see how changes can maximise revenue

Only need it if you watch/record broadcast TV, watch live TV (incl. on streaming services), or use the iPlayer.

Otherwise you don't need to pay the licence at all

That's probably Capita, they basically run the collection of the tax for the BBC. They are very threatening because they are measured on collections, but in reality they have no teeth.

Even if they did come round to your home, you don't have to let them in, nor talk to them.

There is a significant chunk of the population that want to "axe the tax" and essentially kill TV Licensing.

Probably makes it hard to justify large investment to modernise legacy tech in an organisation with that background sentiment.

What are some of the killer features that Slack and Discord can't beat, or don't have?

Which of those jobs gave you the most transferable skills to help you now, Rob?

I don't know if he started the trend, but @kelseyhightower.com quit Twitter and came here which correlates with the reignited Engineering BlueSky.

I think he was the catalyst and then all the reactions created a buzz here which created a positive feedback loop of activity.

Grady seems quite opinionated having seen lots of tech fads come and go. As a critical Chief Scientist, how does Grady temper people/organisation's excitement without stifling innovation?

I think the 400 pages is due to the incredible breadth of content, rather than the depth

Oh, unless a list is different to a starter pack 😅

I said the same thing to Wes a few days ago, that I thought it was another great episode, but I was surprised the GPC browser setting wasn't discussed.

This *could* be the 'future' browser setting you were looking for: https://globalprivacycontrol.org/

Coming to this late, but it's interesting to see that Arc (the browser) is aiming to port their language (Swift) to work on Windows and then use native Windows UI.

They explicitly want a different native UIs for each platform from one language!

I don't know how Linux fits into the picture though.
