I appreciated Jon’s comments about how your brain starts eating your face when it all stops! As a teacher, I go through that every year and for a long time I did not recognize what was going on. Great episode. Pete is awesome. Jon not bad:)

I’m considering approaching this via BTC “stand ups”. Posing three contextual questions (see Tim’s posts) and pulling out the special lines in consolidation. Also possibly 1 at a time— as time allows.

I like the Dave question? I’ll have to mess with that and I think my students will want to as well!

I also think it is too much for a day. I’m using OpenUp Resources Geometry and they do it in a day! I am feeling cutting the whole topic of centers might be the way to go. Maybe drop in one at a time when time allows. It’s tough to try to maintain fidelity to a program— esp. the first time.

I like that context. Finding one that is simple, provocative, and they can imagine is tricky. Do you have ideas for the other centers?

I use cut up white board material so they can draw on it and I can reuse it. I do think the lower density of the foam board has advantages!

I agree! The problem is too much in a curriculum in too short of a time. I would change that for sure if I could.

Truth! Ca. made a small change. Maybe a start. Next steps?

It always seems to come down to sports and transportation are the issues.

Off the top of my head-- number of squares that can be built on a 10 x 10 geoboard, the minimum perimeter of a polyomino. Of course the book Crossing the River with Dogs is something to look at!

Segar- I went and looked up your other solcial stuff-- WOW! I feel like I hit the pot of gold! So good, so many. Huge TY.
And, I saw a link to the software you use-- but now can't find that! Can you tell me what you use?

Here are some ideas your work made me think of! (jpeg should be attached.) Also feeling that Polypad would be interested in this! @mathigon.bsky.social #mtbos #iteachmath
