Quake. I don't think anyone will argue against it being an absolute PC gaming classic. Taking the core concept of Doom, adding a frantic pace and moving the gameplay into true 3D with a grim, creepy atmosphere and sound design and music by Trent Reznor, it's still incredibly fun today.

Locking ownership of games and other media behind unnecessary barriers and completely removing access to goods that people paid for is infinitely more reprehensible than illegitimate sharing and companies who engage in it will not see the light of heaven
