Zacapa is one of my personal favorites. I wrote the tune back in 1972, but then arranged it for large studio orchestra a few years ago. It’s a lovely slow Latin piece that, hopefully, will make you think of that first love you had.

Was thinking of doing a video series (YouTube & shared here) on my process for music production. All the steps from concept, composition, orchestration through the recording mixing and mastering. All old school stuff (not many of us still around these days). Thoughts? Let me know.

Here's an arrangement I did of Chick Corea's 1966 tune, "Tones For Joan's Bones." This is the only arrangement I've released; the rest of my material are original compositions. This chart features a lot of ensemble writing, as well as solo piano.

My latest album was a real departure. I scaled everything back from big band & large orchestra arrangements and rewrote 10 of my compositions for 3 horns & 4 rhythm. Plus, I got to record with my arranging student, Johhny Panfili, a 20-year-old, up-and-coming composer/pianist.

I do not celebrate this day; it is a painful reminder of several massacres that took place during that period. This day was declared a holiday with a feast in celebration of those massacres in 1639. But for those of you who do celebrate what you are thankful for, I hope this is a good day for you.

Hope I'm not a vanishing breed. I compose music at the piano, with pencil & score paper (engrave later). Then arrange & orchestrate for the style I'm writing, record each instrument separately, mix and master to professional specs. All because I believe quality is not a thing of the past.

I wanted to put onto one album my own personal favorites, rather than issue a "Best Of" compilation. The result was "One More Once." It was also the perfect opportunity to remix and remaster three 3 tracks I was not happy with off the first album, especially my 3rd concerto, "Regeneration 2020."

Had to share this beautiful, pensive piece by Dave Edwards. He definitely has a new fan of his composing/playing.

Let me be clear about my purpose. I can’t stand the orange-faced idiot trying to destroy this country, but I am not a political person. I am Lakota, a Native to Turtle Island (North/Central/South America) and only want to protect Her. I also want to share my music with those who love jazz.

My opera magna (3 greatest works), Jazz Concerto 1, 2, & 3. Each is in 3 movements, composed for 70-piece studio orchestra. Lots of jazz solos in various sub-genres, full of positive energy. Listen to them as singles or on my first 3 albums on all major streaming services.

In the midst of all of this hate-filled insanity we have to live with these days, here’s a piece I wrote that, hopefully, will brighten your day. The lyrics talk about a happy place to go to when you’re feeling down: imagination.
Here is “Rainbow Skies.”

When I was first learning to write music back in the 70s, it was with a pencil and score paper, much like this score that was done just a year or so ago. The creative process flows through me when I do, as opposed to using software notation. I am definitely from another era, and that’s OK.

Dear @bsky.app and @support.bsky.team it would be really nice if you could add the ability for us posters to have the ability to EDIT posts once posted. Sometimes a misspelling will drive me bonkers and not being able to correct it after the fact is even worse. Pretty please! Thanks in advance.

Good morning from rainy, wet Sacramento. Here's a bit of brightness for you #jazzlovers. This track from my newest album, "Less is More" allowed me to write/perform in a small combo situation. Here's my tune "Almost There" (from my YouTube Channel so enable external media.)

With all of the AI nonsensical cut and paste rubbish out there, claiming to compose music for you (so you don’t have to do any of the work yourself nor know anything about music), there are some of us that still use a pencil in score paper, sit at the piano and do it the right way.

"Purplesque" is definitely one of my favorite pieces I've ever composed. Written for 70-piece studio orchestra, it's a happy piece – good medicine for the troubled times we're in. Sit back, relax, and let it take you to your happy place.
