Lives in Brisbane, Australia. Pretty centrist on most things: the Left has blind spots, but my God, nothing like the damage the Right has been causing for the last 30 years...
Can we just install DeepSeek in the White House in lieu of Trump? The world, save for the MAGA cultists, would breathe a sigh of relief...

I'm late to the party, but I think we can now say that Robert Heinlein missed the mark just a bit with his "Nazis on the Moon" novel Rocketship Galileo: they're heading to Mars instead!

What's gone right in Hollywood? In the space of a couple of weeks two trailers have got ppl praising the rediscovery of how to make a good one! 28 Years Later & now James Gunn's Superman. I agree, they both really work!

That was odd. The feeds were working ok, but couldn't see any of my own posts on my home page. (On my phone, but they were on my tablet.) Rebooted the phone and everything's back. 🤷🏻‍♂️

For no particular reason....

The last great challenge for BlueSky is to get eccentric commentator Noah Smith to come over here completely. Not just the automated blog posts account which is...

I see that the success of Wicked is leading to online discussion about various interpretations of the Wizard of Oz. Usefully, the BBC has an article about this:

The Wizard of Oz: Five alternative readings
The classic film was first shown 75 years ago – but what is it really about? BBC Culture surveys bizarre suggestions, from religious allegory to an acid trip.

OK, something I don't understand. In the Discover feed, there are about 3 or 4 accounts I follow that are on some sort of high priority - I'm seeing every single post. I mean, I did follow them so there is that...but would be good if Discover made more room for, y'know, discovery?

Another reason for leaving Twitter: the amount of obvious crap UFO, UAP crap that appears in my For You feed now.

Re Feeds. Thought I would search for, and found, one for my hometown Brisbane. Scrolling through it, found 4 or 5 self advertising posts for mature age (female) escorts/ prostitutes. Also, a few unexpected explicit gay selfies. Of course, blocking accounts solves, but a bit irksome to have to...

I think it's a sign that Bluesky has "made it" that I was looking at it the other day and had to scroll up to see whether I was on it or Twitter. (I mean, the content should have been the giveaway, but maybe my distracted mind was thinking back to the time the Twitter experience was positive).

I was wondering about how BlueSky planned on making money. The BBC explained:
bbc.com/news/article...
X users jump to Bluesky - but what is it and who owns it?
Bluesky is picking up one million new users every day at its current rate.

I'm a bit puzzled that I haven't seen much in the way of a campaign for people dismayed by the Trump win to abandon Twitter and delete the app as a Musk punishment. An article at Slate, I think, but it was paywalled. Should be a campaign on X itself.
