I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

We’re not mad at families on SNAP. Everyone deserves food and dignity.

We’re mad at the CEOs getting rich off our labor while paying us so little that we have to rely on SNAP to survive.

The problem isn’t programs — it’s poverty wages.

Autocrats always try to dismantle universities and other sites of free thought. But the current effort to destroy American institutions is also a reactionary backlash against real progress on racial justice in this country. Backlash only happens when movements are winning the argument.

Note to All Nazis, Fascists and Klansmen

Langston Hughes

You delight,
So it would seem,
At making mince-meat of my dream.

If you keep on,
Before you’re through,
I’ll make mince-meat
Out of you.

Democracy depends in part on people who refuse to comply with unlawful (and/or unethical) orders.
The Inspectors General refuse to leave until the action is taken legally, which they do not believe it was, and neither do senators like Chuck Grassley. This is what not backing down looks like.

This is not sustainable. 😱
BREAKING: The wealth of the four richest Americans hit $1 TRILLION yesterday.

It's the first time in history the net worth of just four men—Musk, Bezos, Ellison, Zuckerberg—has hit the trillions.

These four men were worth $74 billion twelve short years ago.

Tax billionaires.

How we can meet the challenges of authoritarianism
