The typeset version of the 2022-2023 Fagradalsfjall paper is out, so let’s go over the main points of the paper 🌋
Mush Disaggregation and Dike Propagation Timescales at Active Volcanoes: Evidence from the 2022–2023 Fagradalsfjall Eruptions
Abstract. The architectures of magma plumbing systems and timescales of magmatic processes are fundamental to understanding volcanic eruption dynamics. Thi

This is a great summary of the developments so far, and what we might expect an eruption to look like.

Latest updates from IMO... Magma continues to flow into the dyke. SO2 gas has been detected in Grindavík, suggesting magmatic degassing somewhat close to the surface. Still impossible to say when (or if) an eruption will happen, but the likelihood remains high. www.vedur.is/um-vi/fretti...

The best source for updates about the potential volcanic activity is the Icelandic Met Office (vedur.is ). If there’s any new data, or other updates, information will be posted there.
