It is a genuine shame the early rugby league pioneers didn’t have a bit more imagination when it came to naming the series to be fair - because you’re absolutely spot on about how the Ashes should only be related to cricket.
But you’re right - whatever the name, hopefully we get a cracking series.

It is a genuine shame the early rugby league pioneers didn’t have a bit more imagination when it came to naming the series to be fair - because you’re absolutely spot on about how the Ashes should only be related to cricket.

Yeah, I get that. The league version has been called the Ashes since 1908 though, so would be weird to call it anything else.
It is a direct borrowing (stealing) of the name from the cricket series purely on account of it being a contest between Australia and England (or Great Britain).
