We demonstrate the use of three-photon microscopy to track changes in vascular structure related to amyloid plaque formation in the APP NL-G-F knock-in model of Alzheimer's Disease.

The second of the hippocampus-inspired paintings by @anjiolina.bsky.social just came back from framing. I’m very happy with how it turned out.

There is a beautiful movie but Bluesky won't show it bc of the aspect ratio, so instead I just show the first frame above. However, here is another snippet - this time simultaneous imaging of 4 different cortical regions at a depth of 520 µm at 7 Hz. All in head-fixed mice exploring a 2D chamber.

This paper presents ULTRA, a new microscope platform which can image a field of view over 7mm diameter and at depths up to 900 µm into cortex. We can image ~10,000 neurons simultaneously at high SNR, and at the same time have the spatial resolution to capture dendritic spines. 1 frame of a movie:

This is the other hippocampal painting by @anjiolina.bsky.social - I am taking it down to have it framed now. I really like this one.

(As I mentioned before, she does neuro-inspired artworks on commission; if you are interested, contact her directly here or via instagram @neuronakaya).

I want to thank especially first author Yimei Li for the huge amount of work she carried out over the 4 years of her PhD (including the pandemic), establishing a head-fixed spatial working memory task that can be used with 2P imaging. She was a truly wonderful student, and a great scientist.

We trained head-fixed mice on a fig-8 spatial alternation task. Learning performance was sensitive to age and genototype, with 5xFAD mice showing impairment. Spatial coding and place cell stability disruptions preceded behav. deficits. Splitter cell degradation correlated with poor task performance.

Hippocampus inspired painting by artist Anjiolina Nakaya @anjiolina.bsky.social. I understand that she takes commissions, and is painting to raise money to pay her way through uni. #neuroart
