Design. Cycling. It’s [eye-an-son]

After 23 years in London now live in the woods in Cheshire.
Weird how I’ve never seen a headline like this for a male footballer. Do share if you have.

OH in the kitchen:
[holding up phone] “Mum, look at this that I made”
“But your hair isn’t that long”
“Yeah, it’s an ai filter. And ai is a bit rubbish”

Three days at London Tech Week. Done!

Great to lift my head above the parapet and see what’s happening outside my bubble.

Key takeaway: if you’re not working in AI or implementing it into your app, startup or business, what are you even doing?

Longer thoughts to come on LinkedIn.

WTF?

This is horrid.
A writer pal of mine died five years ago. Today a post suddenly appeared on his Facebook account, some auto-generated AI slop posted by whoever or whatever has got control of it. Annoying and depressing in equal measure.

Apple has a serious conflict. Their approach of only shipping highly polished apps and services vs the rest of the industry ‘getting AI in the hands of the user early’ is damaging them.

You can faff with interface all you like but they really need to get on top of this.

So pleased for my good friends at Wonderbly. Now part of the Penguin Random House family.

Visma pulled a blinder today. And UAE blew it. But the riders still have to turn the pedals. Brilliant ride by Yates. And having WvA’s wheel in the valley made it all come together perfectly. Chapeau.

A Saturday in middle age: jet washed the wheely bins and garden bench. Applied coat of oil to bench. BBQ this evening. 👨‍🦳

Middle age happiness is: a tidy lawn.

Cut, using middle class tools…

Watching a documentary about the Hubble Space Telescope. I hope, one day, America can get back to using their wealth, ambition and world-leading capabilities to do more of these things. From here, it feels like this level of intellectual ambition and curiosity has disappeared.

Went to a bike race. Saw this legend win. Again.

'Let me Google That For You' has now become 'Let me craft a really good prompt and see what AI says"

Powless summoned an inner Stannard. Played it perfectly. 3:1 against! Well done Neilson Powless. @efprocycling.com

Just launched one of the biggest projects I’ve worked on in a while. US only at the moment. UK coming later this week.

Will post on Friday.

Signs you’re in the final few days of a project and bug fixing: Every message on Slack has a thread. And some of them are <50 messages long.
February 7, 2025 at 9:25 AM
No matter how smoothly a project goes in the preceding 7 months. No matter how well planned. It’s always a fraught final few days before launch. Why do the weird bugs always emerge then?

Big push to Tuesday.
