Quinces.
Working on a story about them.
I'd be curious to know about your relationship to them, if you're amenable to this.
My father planted a quince tree for me as a gift twenty years ago, and I've been enjoying them ever since.

How many of you have read the Re/Search Publications books? I recently dug out my copy of "Angry Women," and the queer kid who came to be during the AIDS crisis needed this book so much. (1/3)

Bumblebee sleeping in Queen Anne’s Lace. This is what I needed to see on this walk.

The double-edged sword of buying books and magazines for the love of them:
- oooh, this looks interesting. I like having the option to read this later
- later is 10-12 years.

Case in point, this issue of Fool Magazine I bought in 2013. (At least I read all the Saveur issues in the background)

Getting up sucked. Getting sour cherries, sweet cherries, and a few currants did not. 🍒🍒

Found a random sour cherry tree in my neighbourhood, grown on city property. Hard not to pick…

When the independent bookstore makes sure to send cute notes with your purchase of a tote and @vittles.bsky.social in your package. Bless Toronto’s Good Egg for making book buying worth it.

On a personal note, two books that I worked on as an editor are on the list. Helping authors to tell the stories they want to tell, and in the manner they want to tell them, is a dream. Congrats to Lindy Mechefske (tinyurl.com/2p9pyupd) & Karen E Fisher (tinyurl.com/hnudb5nv) !

This weekend, I'll be hosting a conference (in French and English!) about the apple, as well as handing out scions of said apple so people in the community can take them home and graft them. And yes, there will be someone on hand to teach people how to graft!

This is how stories get told.

One year ago, @karenpinchin.bsky.social & I had the occasion to go to the Jampolis Cottage, run by @writersfedofns.bsky.social. We worked together to research a nearly forgotten apple: the Belliveau. That one week cascaded into so many other stories, a trip to the Oxford Food Symposium & more. (1/)

Je suis pas mal excité pour cette conférence que je vais présenter à la fin du mois. L'histoire de la pomme Belliveau, une variété acadienne de la Nouvelle-Écosse! On va aussi distribuer des greffes de la pomme aux gens!

Fell back in love with my little Moka Pot/Vesuvio/Bialetti recently and it just feels right. Especially now that I know how to use it properly.

I was doing my taxes yesterday and found the receipt from my last trip. It had been a few years so i had to make up for what had been an annual trek.

This was the haul. I’m still pawing through it. All the Grigson, in first editions. Mildly obsessed.
