Appreciate Mike Cox's campaign for flagging this: Michigan's campaign finance system is seemingly double-counting original and amended transactions, falsely inflating the cumulative totals the system generates for some summary reports.

About 150 protestors in Gladwin (population 3,000) this morning for a No Kings Day rally.

There’s handful of counter-protestors from the Gladwin GOP across the street, and the Trump Unity Bridge guy (sans bridge) is doing drive-bys with his loudspeaker.

Pretty decent turnout for this Michigan Capitol rally held after the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The Trump Unity Bridge is also here, naturally

Inbox: “Due to an abundance of caution for the community’s safety” a progressive coalition’s town hall event is being postponed.

Their announcement last night came not long after Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist disclosed he had received a bomb threat at his home yesterday.

The Michigan House just passed a “bathroom bill” along party lines. It would ban transgender students from using school bathrooms of the gender they identify with.

Mike Duggan's independent gubernatorial campaign announced a list of more than 200 current and former elected officials backing his campaign this evening.

Former Flint mayor Karen Weaver is in there, and a smattering from elsewhere in MI, but it's a heavily metro Detroit list.

When I covered them earlier this year, pro-RCV group RankMIVote hadn't settled on exactly how they would implement the practice in MI. They appear to have opted to require RCV in both primary and general elections for all state-level candidates. Optional county-level and lower.

A provision in Michigan's ranked choice voting ballot proposal would move August primaries to June.

Primaries must be held at least 140 days before a November general election, under draft ballot language that's before the board of state canvassers later this month.

Here's an official White House photo of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and House Speaker Matt Hall presenting a gift to President Donald Trump April 9.

Appears to feature an engraved bullet, folded state flag, military patch in Trump's name, historical pic and list of Selfridge fighters.

Former House Speaker Joe Tate’s entry into Michigan’s U.S. Senate race seems forthcoming.

A source this week received a personal call from Tate asking for a campaign donation and a dark money nonprofit account connected to the Detroit Democrat is promoting town halls.

Wildest thing I've heard from Former House Speaker Lee Chatfield's preliminary exam: according to text messages from his wife Stephanie (who's also charged) he spent about $500 on touchtunes — the app-driven jukeboxes in bars and restaurants — in 2020.

For this scenario -- bills not sent to the governor when a new legislative term begins -- Hall had previously said "there's no precedent."

The Senate lawsuit makes plain that's not the case. It's not the thrust of their legal argument, though.

After Pres. Trump approved broad tariffs on Canada + Mexico today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer called them a “middle-class tax hike” that will “cripple our economy and hit working-class, blue-collar families especially hard.”

It’s some of her most pointed criticism of Trump since his inauguration.
