Carriage Driver, ex-Cop, ex-Scientist, yeah it's a weird resume.
Newport, RI, the best little city in the best little state.
Zero sum thinking.
Many many people assume that the size of the pie is static. So, if others are get a bigger piece, by definition, I am getting a smaller one, and vice versa.
Trump is just a cartoonishly extreme example of this common simplistic view of the world.

Psychopaths, they hate each other as much as they hate the rest of us.

Yes, I hope he believes this crap.

And, that is the best transit in the country.
Out here in average USA, they built a new train station near me with service to Boston and the Rhode Island Airport. Great!
Eight trains PER DAY in each direction!
That's an average headway of 3 HOURS.
NO service at all on weekends.

In the past, most countries would rather align with us because we are more trustworthy and predictable than a Communist dictatorship.
Whelp....

Trump is dealing with this scandal like he has always dealt with scandals. Delay, distract, counter-attack, wait for it to go away.
This scandal is too big for that approach.
I'm glad he is dragging it out. It will still be in the news in November, and hopefully November 2028.

There are two reasons top professionals work for the government:
1. A desire to serve the public.
2. To build a resume.
Under Trump you are not going to do either.
They are left with grifters and incompetents.

MAGA is greed and bigotry.
Nothing more, nothing less.

Melania Trump (ne' Melanija Knavs) has undoubtedly had an interesting life. Born in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia under Tito, and becoming First Lady of the United States.
But, apparently, she has no intention of telling anybody about it, even in a documentary supposedly about her.

That is why Vance is VP.
Trump does not want a successor.
He will hold onto power as long as he can, and he doesn't care what happens afterwards.

Musk has realized that many investors will believe anything.
So why go through the trouble of actually running a business?
It will all come crashing down some day, but there is a good chance he will avoid serious consequences.

'warrants for arrests' could be big.
Most ICE arrests are made from 'immigration detainers'. Which are used like arrest warrants, without the annoying judicial review bit.
January 27, 2026 at 2:06 PM
Definitely. She looks fabulous too.
January 24, 2026 at 4:05 PM
If Trump cares about Vance at all, it is to make sure he stays irrelevant.
January 24, 2026 at 2:50 PM
Trump is going to dominate the midterms and he has already lost the swing voters.
In the handful of truly competitive races it is going to come down to the candidates. Name recognition, likeability, ground game, etc. Both are going to promise lower inflation, more jobs, free puppies, etc.

Contrary to popular belief, my experience has been that civil servants actually tend to take the mission of their agency seriously.
Trump and his minions have the difficult task of finding people who will do his bidding AND are capable of doing it.
January 22, 2026 at 6:31 PM
I would guess it is more than half.
January 22, 2026 at 6:13 PM
And/or Iceland.
January 21, 2026 at 3:03 PM
If you are unclear, most people will decide you meant whatever it is they wished you had said.
Trump has used this simple fact to his advantage all his life.

Young MAGA are ... MAGA.
Did anybody not think that?
If anything they seem less hard core than I would have thought.
January 20, 2026 at 6:41 PM
We are rapidly getting to the point where we are going to have actual physical conflict between various law enforcement agencies.
That is unusual, but not as unusual as most people would think.

There is a big gap between what AI is promising and current reality.
More importantly, most people don't even want what AI is promising.
But the rich love the promise of AI. They would be able to wallow in luxury without any grubby peasants around.
So, we have the largest bubble ever.

The most powerful nation in the world (economically and militarily) is now unreliable and unpredictable. It sucks.
