Yay telephoto lens! I got some excellent shots of "our" mated pair of red-tailed hawks. They love hanging out in one of the tall trees behind our house.

Mr & Mrs Red-tailed Hawk! Our first sight of them together this year. They love this tallest tree in the woods behind our house.

Today's word from The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows... Particularly apt in these troubled times.

Continuing on my homemade ink journey: blueberry. I love this blue-on-the-violet-side color.

I was hoping for a lovely veggie dish as part of my dinner tonight, and in fact the veggies are quite nice. But sadly, the promised packet of roasted garlic sauce, to be set aside then drizzled on at the end, was missing. So I had to improvise. @eathaks

My first little abstract experiment with homemade copper/blue, rose petal, and acorn inks.

Christmas gift from my husband, who knows me so well 😆

Almost midpoint on the copper/blue ink - after 9 days it has a distinct blue tint. It has almost 2 weeks to go.

I'm trying the cranberry ink again, now that I have a better grasp of the process.

Some days I wish *I* could just hang out in a sink and ignore the world.

One of the great things about living near a university... Theatre night!

Today I made ink from acorn caps, from the tree in front of my house. I can't tell you how satisfying it is to use materials I gathered myself from my own home. It came out a lovely brownish gray.

My first finished homemade inks! Turmeric yellow and Rose Petal lavender.

A cat and his box.

Making yellow alcohol ink from turmeric is simple. Turmeric and isopropyl alcohol in a jar overnight, then strain it and voilá. Makes me want to try paprika to see if I get a lovely earthy red.

Making blue ink from copper is truly chemistry. I used copper scrap from jewelry making, it's submerged in vinegar with a tablespoon of salt. 1-3 weeks from now I will have blue ink.

After this morning's dismal ink-making failure, I'm trying again. This time, I'm using rose petals from the flowers my husband gave me for our wedding anniversary last week.

Another exciting first: making my own ink. Today, from cranberries. This book is my guide.

Final adventure for the day: compounding my own CBD/CBG lotion. High school chemistry pays off! The company I used to buy CBD/CBG Recovery Cream from went out of business, and now you can buy distillates that are legal in every state cuz no THC, so yeah.

Fun activity number 1: mixing up gum arabic to be a binder for homemade ink. And yes, I love the tiny beakers.

And this the bread I make with the wheat I grind with my Nutrimill: Whole Wheat Schiacciata from this cookbook.
