Basically, they are two kids in a primary school playground.
I guess the writers were just trying to do something.. funny, but it seems like they're incapable of writing a scene that's humorous AND intelligent.

I've noticed that North Americans consider love to be something rather superficial. When I read them, I get the impression that for them it's kind of game or a hobby..
It's supposed to be one of the most serious and deepest things in the world.

It should be obvious and unambiguous; it's the kind of thing that takes precedence over everything else.

Apart from being an additional mental burden and giving Rook false hope in his shitty romance, he does absolutely nothing for them outside of plot-related stuff.

I didn't quite understand what you said about 'having your feelings hurt', the only thing that hurts me is how Emmrich behaved and how I experienced the romance with him.
