Yes but apparently it's too complicated for them and their small, narrow minds.

I think Emmrich reminds me too much of my exes, actually. Love bombing at first (romantic dates, lovely words), then long phase of stagnation, and finally an argument they start about a future that doesn't exist, just because they want to break up and are too cowardly to say it clearly. Same pattern.

Forgot to mention that the Emmrich-Taash argument is completely childish and silly. It doesn't really bother me for Taash since it's consistent with the character, but an elegant scholar in his fifties who talks like a spoiled little boy is the most mediocre and ridiculous thing in the universe.

It's the same pattern absolutely everywhere: men don't get attached when they're helped or supported. They get attached when they have to make an effort to get what they want.
This also seems to be true in fictional universes.

Emmrich is as attentive, expressive and demonstrative as a barrel in a frozen landfill.

Either it's a big problem with the writing, or Emmrich' writer doesn't know what love is.
September 14, 2025 at 6:34 AM
The more I think about it, the more I find what Emmrich did .. awful, unforgivable.
If you have to lose the person you love to realize how much you care about them, then you don't really love them.

This character doesn't know how to love, that emmrook bullshit is just a big disappointment and delusion.

I think I can tolerate a pathetic love interest as long as he is submissive and devoted body and soul, but Emmrich is just a fragile little thing who is only interested in himself and his problems, sometimes I don't even feel like he's listening to us when we talk to him.
September 13, 2025 at 6:49 AM
There are only two flirts to which he responds favorably. I remember that on several occasions Rook told him that they cared about him but all he could say in response was“That's nice, but I'll be fine” or “Yes, I know, but Johanna...” with a sigh, and lament again

One thing that is clear, talking to me so aggressively because I don't like a bunch of animated pixels will certainly not help me to appreciate it : )

If I romance a male character, I don't just expect him to be interesting and attractive, I also want him to be madly in love, devoted and humble, nothing less.
September 12, 2025 at 6:59 PM
I don't even understand why everyone is getting so angry. Emmrich doesn't exist.
(Even if he did exist, I would have the right to hate him, and I imagine he wouldn't give a damn.)
September 12, 2025 at 5:35 PM
Omg, I understand better why so many people dislike fandoms.
September 12, 2025 at 5:20 PM
Just to clarify, I'm only here to complain about gaming experiences and say what I want. I'm definitely not here to make friends or get followers. This is a kind of diary I keep while I'm coding, so leave me alone.
September 12, 2025 at 4:49 PM
Actually, I can't even accuse Emmrich of lying about his feelings; it's not as if he claimed anything, he's just indifferent, disinterested.
September 12, 2025 at 4:34 PM
Also game devs: don't include arguments in RPG romances if the romance is locked. An argument is one of the signs that the relationship isn't going well, so it's better to stop unless you want a toxic relationship.
An argument is a conflictual situation, and we shouldn't be forced to continue.

I still can't believe BioWare created as a romance option a pan guy who behaves exactly like any dirty old straight man.
Having sex for several months with someone too young for him: no problem, he seems delighted. When Rook is in love, it's getting more serious: he rejects them.
Fucking asshole.
September 12, 2025 at 7:41 AM
In the absence of more cutscenes, kisses and intimate moments with our love interest, the writers could have done something really simple: two or three codex entries devoted to Rook's romance.
September 11, 2025 at 10:43 AM
Apparently all the romances in Dragon Age: Veilguard are sloppy.
That's a shame because the game is excellent and serves as a decent epilogue to the saga (although overly scripted, Rook doesn't really contribute to the plot, we have very few choices and they have no impact).
September 11, 2025 at 8:35 AM
I vent my frustrations on this account, that's not really an invitation to tell me that I'm wrong to feel what I feel about a fictional character.
I didn't wake up one morning and say “Today I'm going to decide to hate Emmrich 😀”
I would have loved for things to have turned out differently..
September 9, 2025 at 1:40 PM
I finished Emmrich romance, worst thing in my gaming life, what a joke. I comfort myself with the thought that my Rook will have the opportunity to cheat on him and throw him away like a piece of trash after Veilguard.
I hope there's no sequel to this saga, I never want to see that guy again.
September 8, 2025 at 3:42 PM
And he has the nerve to call Rook ‘darling’ afterwards, not a word of regret
You hypocrite

The trope of weak, indecisive man with insecurities that their partner must forgive is the most disappointing, boring and common thing in real life, but Sylvia Feketekuty decided to give us that as a romanceable character. It's a shame because Emmrich truly had potential for a wholesome romance.
