Why would Hilton do any better than Steve Garvey, who had local name recognition? Garvey lost the Senate race to Adam Schiff 59% to 41%. There is almost always a GOP candidate in most races - and with Trump chaos as a backdrop, doubt Hilton would do better.

I am an old white person and will be protesting on behalf of my fed employee friends who are close to retirement and cannot risk it, and my elderly friends who are too frail to stand for hours, and for my children who are caring for babies and can’t risk an arrest.

I am surprised that health insurance companies/HMO plans are not making noise about this. 25-30% of their income comes from Medicare reimbursements. It won’t be just rural hospitals affected. The whole healthcare system will be crippled.

If it wants her to use login.gov, that change to the login process happened before Trump took office. It started sometime in 2024.

While I disagree with the shift away from phone service because of the elderly, new applicants are frustrated about the lack of online features since we already do a lot of things online like taxes and banking.

I have been a Dem since the 80’s, retired now, I have moved further left into universal healthcare AND universal income. Through special interest forums I have talked with people from Europe/UK, and am just saddened how our US individual freedom fantasy has hurt us.

So the reason Schumer doesn’t want a shutdown is that anything Trump/Musk do during the shutdown cannot be litigated. They cannot be sued like they are now because a shutdown gives executive branch total control.

He is not the brains behind this. The billionaires are. Their plan is to tank the economy so that they can buy anything and everything at fire sale prices. Farm land, homes, businesses (to reduce competition).

I donate small amounts to groups filing all the lawsuits against the current administration. Just ordered postcards to send for the WI supreme court election. Some larger libraries offer ebooks through the Libby or Hoopla apps, and you don’t have to live locally to check out digital books.

Federal taxes withheld are paid by the employer directly to the US treasury, or estimated taxes are paid to the feds by an individual or business.
That tax money doesn’t go through the state except for state employees.How would a state intercept a private or local govt fed tax payment?
