"You've been staring at the stars for what feels like eons, Silv," she heard Ricmorn remark from her right. She didn't have to glance his way to know he was smirking. "Easy now, my friend!" Hien laughed. Silva heard the faint swish of his long ponytail shaking back and forth, biting the inside of her cheek to hold back a smile. "It hasn't been nearly that long. Perhaps a bell or two, at most? Besides, she's beautiful when the heavens dance in those vibrant eyes of hers. I could watch them all night…" "Sweet talker." Silva couldn't help but laugh at their antics. "I haven't been lying here under the night sky for that long, you two. I doubt it's been twenty minutes. Seems you both have trouble keeping track of time and how it works." She slowly sat up on her elbows when they chuckled, amusement shimmering in their hazel and sky-blue eyes, her long tail swaying slowly in the grass. "I will, however, take that compliment." Hien flashed her a blinding smile before leaning down to steal a sweet kiss from her lips. "I'm happy to give them out whenever, [Wildflower,]" he murmured. "Just say the word." "Oh?"

To others, she was someone putting on a show as a dancer. But to Hien, she was baring her soul to the world, the embodiment of life itself. She was the most magnificent thing he'd ever seen. “Look at her,” Alisaie said, dark blue eyes glinting with awe and wonder. “To think that… she was hiding this. I can’t help but feel like Silva’s been holding out on us.” Lyse shook her head, amused. “No, that’s not it, Alisaie. This is what Silva looks like when the world doesn’t weigh down on her shoulders. When she’s filled with joy and peace. You just haven’t been around long enough to see— to know her, is all,” she told the young Scion. She playfully bumped her shoulder against Alisaie’s when she pouted. “To see what makes her… well, her. Some of us have years on you to discover all the mysteries about everyone’s favorite Warrior of Light. Decades, even. Give it time, and you’ll learn!” And then a breathless laugh left her as the Auri woman did another elaborate twirl. “Perhaps, have fun with it too.” And Hien, rather selfishly, prayed he would have more time to learn what else Silva was hiding away. What he would uncover himself. He shouldn’t be thinking like this. He shouldn’t— “Kami help me, she’s so beautiful,” Hien breathed, his lips and tongue moving on their own. His heart ached, the pain radiating through his chest. Another starburst engulfed the room, followed by the sensation of soft, misty rain clinging to his skin, stealing the air from his lungs. And he swore he caught her looking in his direction, their eyes locking. “So absolutely beautiful. The most radiant human I’ve been blessed to have met.” No one else matched her. Not even close. Silva was all bubbly laughter and smiles as she climbed up the stairs — slowly. Blood roared in her ivory horns as she carefully climbed the steps backward, refusing to tear her eyes away from Hien as he watched her. The hungry gleam in them only slowed her steps. And made her even bolder. “What’s the matter, [my heart?]” she questioned, a playful pout on her lips. “Afraid of a little running? A little… chase?” The way his eyes narrowed at her taunting, how his fingers twitched at his sides, made her breath hitch. Silva knew what that meant in their games. He wanted to touch her— needed to touch her. She needed it too. She longed to feel those large palms run along her bare skin and white scales, toying with her body and all the sensitive spots that made her crumble. For those thick fingers to graze against the soft inside of her thighs before finding their way between them. The ragged cry that would leave her as the young lord pressed them inside her— Silva forced herself to swallow the whimper crawling up her throat. “That doesn’t sound like you, Hien.” She didn’t sound like herself either, Silva realized. Desire distorted her voice, words slightly breathy with an edge of need for him to sprint after her. Why wasn’t he? A dark chuckle rumbled from him, shaking his chest and shoulders. She stopped mid-step, watching and waiting to see what Hien would do next. “Oh, Silva… You know better than that by now.” His words had her full attention. Her heart raced when his laughter died, only for it to thunder against her ribs when the heat in his eyes threatened to glue her on the spot. Gods and help her. He stepped toward the grand staircase, the wooden banister creaking as his left hand curled around it. What she would give for that hand to curve around a leg, thigh, waist, her fucking throat— “You know I’m always up for the chase,” he murmured sweetly. Hien’s lips twisted into a wicked smirk. “You better start running if you wish to walk in the morning, [wildflower.]” “I know how hard it is for you to be here. That you have feelings of uncertainty you’re trying to sort out on your own time when it comes to our homeland. I respect that,” he murmured. Hien watched as understanding washed over her features. “You use this quiet, secluded space as a sanctuary of sorts when you feel overwhelmed when your duties require you, Ricmorn, and your Scion companions to be here. Just as I do from time to time. I want you to know that this space is just as much yours as it is mine, my dear friend.” The two Domans stared at one another as he gave her a moment to fully take in his words. To tumble them over in her head and think about them. But he didn’t mind waiting — never. He loved her, after all. Even if she didn’t know it yet. “Are you going to make this a habit, Hien?” she questioned after a few moments. He hummed, curious. “Am I going to make what a habit, Silva?” A pretty lilac flush stained her cheeks. “Taking my breath away,” she answered, ignoring just how breathless she sounded. He chuckled, low and deep. The rich sound had no business making her heart and stomach do funny things from that alone. “I make you breathless, you say?” “You do more than just that.” And when her brain caught up to her mouth, Silva slapped a hand over it in mortification. The way his face lit up at her abrupt admission made her long tail swish wildly behind her, and she didn’t know whether to try to explain herself or flee. “I-I’m sorry! I don’t know where that came from, a-and—” The Au Ra wanted to pull her hair out and scream, wanting to do anything other than tripping over her damn tongue.  Gods, why was she like this? “Hey, Silv— I got the bag of soil you needed and… Am I interrupting something?” Silva jumped at the sound of Ricmorn’s voice, another embarrassed squeak escaping her. She pulled herself away from Hien — who was more than happy to let her go and have space — and rushed over to her husband’s side. “No, no! I’m fine! Everything’s fine! Great!” she awkwardly laughed. The confused expression he wore grew as he stared down at her, frowning. “You can put the bag down wherever and I will handle it later.” “Okay…” he hesitated, sounding unconvinced that she was fine. Ricmorn glanced over at Hien, who simply offered him a sheepish smile and a slight shrug. “Anywhere, you said?” She quickly nodded. “Y-yup! I will deal with it later, or perhaps tomorrow, when I have a moment free!”  But not now. Certainly not now. She needed to sort through everything that just happened to her and get her heart to stop threatening to beat free from her chest. To take a moment to catch her breath before showing her face in front of the handsome samurai again. And before the white mage could ask where she was running off to — or better yet, ask more questions — she quickly sprinted past him and into Kienkan through the door he walked out of. Feeling even more confused than he had a second ago, he turned back toward his friend. “What did you do to break my wife?” “I… may have flustered her more than I had intended,” the young lord answered, reaching around to rub the back of his neck.

His mouth found hers instantly in a slow, lazy kiss that spoke a thousand words. Soft hums left them both at the contact — at the weight each brushing of lips held as Hien held her close. Whispers of love and adoration filled the air between each one. Beautiful. I love you. You're my world. You make everything worth fighting for. Only you can calm the storm inside my mind. Phrases that were spoken with deep fondness as their kisses grew longer, deeper. The only added to the heat steadily growing between them. One of Silva's hands made its way into his long hair. Silky strands of ink easily slipped between her fingers as she stole another kiss from him, gently tugging on them before melding her mouth to his. And the moan she swallowed from him tasted sweet on her tongue. "Fuck," she breathed, her mind already hazy. "What do I need to do to have you make that sound again?" She felt more than heard his amused rumble. "You are trouble," the young lord whispered between heady kisses. The sound of her quiet giggles was just loud enough to echo in his ears, and he quickly devoured them. Her laughter and joy were his for the taking. His to behold as Ricmorn dreamed away on the other side of the bed. "Absolute trouble." She nipped at his lips, soothing the sting with a sweep of her tongue and a deeper kiss than before. "Please— You love me this way, Hien," she purred. "I know you do." A gasp escaped her when he returned the nip, his blunt teeth sinking into soft flesh. Not once, but twice. A sting that was sharper but made her toes curl. Sparks of pleasure rushed down her spine to the pool of heat gathering between her thighs as he sucked on her bottom lip to chase the pain away. Silva swore the room spun when he finally let the tender skin go. At least she didn't wake up her husband with her noises.

Or, as she always liked to put it, a warm blanket for her soul. "You…" she whispered, closing her eyes as she shook her head, trying to steady herself. And to avoid seeing the crooked grin on his lips. "You—" She found his deep, rumbling chuckles maddening. "I… what, darling?" he teased. His beloved answered him in a way that was all pure want and love in the same breath. Silva leaned forward again and crashed her mouth to his. A kiss that was hot with need and deep as her fingers sank into his long hair to keep him anchored in place. "Madman," she growled. "You are an absolute madman, and you know exactly how to push my godsdamned buttons." But he was hers, and she loved him dearly.

Ricmorn looked to his wife, smirking when Silva met his gaze, a questioning trill rumbling in her throat. "And then, in one rare case, there's the time that a special young lord likes to watch Silv here create things with her hands." The red mage gasped. "Wait— Hien likes watching you craft, Silva?" she asked, dark blue eyes shimmering. Silva sighed and shook her head, but the sound soon dissolved into light laughter. "He does, yes!" she told Alisaie. "Ever since he asked for our aid in rebuilding the Doman Enclave or even donating any extra materials we had toward the cause, he's been curious. It's also a way for us to spend time together, oddly enough. I can work on hand stitching cloth crafts or polishing cut stones while he works in his office." "Gods— That's so cute. It's nice to have a partner, er, partners, who support you." The Auri man chuckled at Alisaie's minor correction. "It is," agreed Ricmorn, his expression softening slightly. "Especially when Hien looks up from his paperwork to watch Silva work her magic for a minute or two before returning his focus to it." Oh, the dancer knew he did that. She even caught him in the act a few times, but the young lord always played it off like he wasn't. "Stop it," the younger woman groaned. "Ugh! You're going to make my teeth rot with how sweet that is!" "The man loves her — not that I can blame him." "You both do, Ricmorn," Silva murmured sweetly. Her husband's hum of approval rang in her ivory horns.

His fingertips ghosted over the much smaller, white scars scattered across her upper back and shoulders that reminded him of shrapnel wounds. “And these?” was his next question after he swallowed the invisible lump in his throat. "How did you get these smaller ones?" The Auri woman tugged her bottom lip between her teeth, biting the soft flesh for a moment before answering her other lover. “Same day, same fight. The swipe knocked me into a wall made of rough rock. Hard. Stole the damn air from my lungs, too." She felt her throat tighten as the memory flashed in her mind. Breathe, breathe, breathe— "Jagged pieces became embedded in my skin from the force of the impact.” Her voice cracked on the last word. There was a heavy pause — one of sorrow and… an emotion she couldn't name. All Silva knew was that her heart broke when she heard Hien breathe her name. The sadness was clear to her ivory horns. “Oh, Silva…” "I… I know, Hien." Gods, did she know with every fiber of her being that she shouldn't be here. She shouldn't be alive. She was lucky that she was unconscious when they arrived with her injured body back in Ishgard and started tending to her severe wounds. Silva knew without a doubt had she been awake, every citizen in the blasted, frozen city would hear her screams for malms around as the chirurgeons slowly extracted each sharp piece of broken earth from her skin. Her shrill crying as magic stitched and mended muscle and flesh back together would have haunted them. If she thought about it hard enough, the black mage could have sworn she could recall heartbreaking pleas coming from Ricmorn for her to live — to survive. That hot tears streamed down his pale cheeks as she went into shock. As cold death circled her. How he called out promises of making it up to her for the rest of his days if she stayed with him. If she held on for a few minutes longer. If he hadn't been with her… It was a thought she didn’t like to think about, and it made her stomach twist into tight knots when she did. Hien swore a string of curses under his breath, frowning at the information given to him. He knew the pain she went through was something he couldn’t even begin to imagine — how terrified she must have been. Kami, how did she live through this and walk away with her life? Even with her being the Warrior of Light and having Hydaelyn’s Blessing, she wasn’t invincible as most people made her out to be in their wise tales he would hear wherever he went, and her name came up. Silva lived, breathed, and bled just like everyone else — she was still human. He wished others would understand that, would see reason. The truth. They were all fools for thinking that nothing could ever harm her. "Hien—" she tried, sensing his mind was spiraling. She wanted— needed to soothe him. But when she tried twisting her torso to look at him, to offer whatever touch, reassurance, or affection he needed to ground himself, he stopped her. "Just… Give me a moment — I'll be fine," he promised. "I'll be fine." Yet even his own ears heard the slight uncertainty in his voice. They sat together in silence, even Ricmorn stopped moving, trying to wrangle their mix of emotions back to something more manageable. So it was easier for them to breathe. A quiet trill rumbled from Silva when Hien rested his forehead against her left shoulder and took a shuddering inhale. She knew what he was doing, using the warmth of her skin and her solid presence to steady himself — reminding his mind that she was right here. Safe, alive, and well in his hold. The gesture was touching and made tears fill her eyes. "I'm sorry," she rasped before she could stop the words from leaving her lips. "Silv—" she heard Ricmorn say. But her husband didn't get to finish his sentence as the young lord carefully wrapped an arm around her middle and held her closer. "Don't you dare apologize for something outside of your control, [Wildflower,]" he told her beside her horn. "For thinking that this was somehow your fault." "But you're upset—" A fragile laugh left him. "Of course I'm upset. The woman I love deeply is recounting a tale from her past that has left behind scars." Hien pressed a sweet kiss to Silva's skin when she sniffled, and then several more when she shook with a silent sob. "Not just physical ones, but mentally too. I know that this is difficult for you to talk about, but you are so brave for sharing this part of you with me — for letting me in and answering my questions. Don't forget that. Never forget that."

And how the look would soften just ever so slightly when his gaze flicked over and lingered on her for several heartbeats before looking away. The gold flecks in his peridot orbs shimmered in the sun. Four times now, she counted. Silva would be lying if she didn't admit that each glance made her breath catch or her heart leap into her throat. If it didn't fill her belly with butterflies. Ridiculous. No, what was ridiculous was how her heart skipped several beats when his eyes met hers for the fifth time, and the corner of his mouth curled into a crooked grin once he noticed her staring. And suddenly, the lush grass and wildflowers at her feet were more interesting to look at. "Silva… Hello, Silva?" Lyse tried, waving a hand to gain Silva's attention. A pause several heartbeats long filled the air. "Is she even listening to me?" Ricmorn shook his head as he crossed his arms, sighing. "I don't think she is, Lyse," he said to her, his sky-blue eyes shifting from his wife to their friend. "She seems rather occupied with whatever is happening inside that pretty head of hers at the moment." And he found that rather curious… "Distracted by our handsome new friend here once more, are you, my dear?" he questioned, brushing his beige-scaled tail against her ivory one. "I swear you're going to make yourself dizzy with how often you glance over at him." She startled at the sensation of rough scales touching her, tearing her gaze away from the ground. "Huh?" Silva mumbled, confused. Lyse scoffed. "Of course, she would react to that. Why am I surprised?" "React to what?" she asked, sea-green eyes narrowing. "To Ricmorn calling you out on ogling at Hien while I'm trying to get your attention, that's what." Heat flooded Silva's face, stuttering as she tried to piece together a retort worthy of her casual remark — which only made Lyse giggle. And Ricmorn rolled his eyes as he watched her fluster herself further. Oh, heavens help her. "Ogling!? That wasn't what I was doing!" she exclaimed, keeping her voice low enough that it didn't carry over to the other group. "Sure, Silva. Sure," Lyse hummed as she grinned, giving the Auri woman a playful wink. "And the sky isn't blue. At least he didn't accuse you of flirting with the young lord again." She couldn't help but laugh again when Silva groaned. "I could—" Ricmorn started, only to be cut off as a low growl rumbled in his wife's throat. Silva wanted to scream.

“Hien—“ Silva mumbled, her voice dropping to a whisper as he closed the distance between them. A stuttered gasp left her as Hien wrapped his arms around her, one palm holding her waist as the other found its home at the middle of her spine, holding her close. Holding her as if she would disappear or break into a thousand pieces. It's love wrapped in tender adoration. It’s… home. The tension in her muscles faded under the power of his embrace, and the warmth of his body seeped into hers. Silva's arms coil around his neck and shoulders in return. It’s more than home, actually. A fact Silva realized over the last several months as they spent more time together — as they both fell more in love with each other. A kind of safety that couldn’t be put into words. But their hearts and souls knew what it was. They knew what it was always meant to be. And the powerful emotion behind it grew tenfold when Hien pulled back enough to rest his forehead against hers, hazel eyes meeting and locking with sea-green ones. “[Wildflower.]” “Hien…” she breathed, her heart fluttering. He offered her a lazy smile before pressing his lips to the small patch of ivory scales decorating the middle of her brow, savoring the soft hum rumbling in her throat. And how her fingers curled into the fluffy fur at his collar. “Looking into your eyes endlessly,” he crooned. Silva’s sharp inhale echoed in his ears as he kissed the plum-colored freckles on both her cheeks. He felt her weight shift toward him, assuming her knees buckled, and pulled her impossibly closer, melding their bodies together. His smile turned into a grin as he continued. “Falling into your lap desperately…” Silva felt warmth roll up her neck and bleed into her cheeks, bubbly laughter filling the air. “Oh, heavens above—“ she groaned, trying to hide her face. Trying to do anything to hide her blushing face from him as his chest shook with deep, rumbling chuckles. But Hien wouldn’t let her. No, not when he loved her like this, flustered in his arms and caught in his embrace. Not when he wanted to burn this memory into his mind before Silva’s duties called her away again for weeks at a time. The way she felt against him, the love shimmering in her eyes, the way her breath hitched as his lips and teeth moved over her skin. “The only heavens you’ll be seeing,” he started, his mouth brushing against hers in a feather-light kiss, “are what bursts behind your eyes when—“ A different kind of molten heat rolled through Silva. Mortification mixed with a rush of desire. “Hien Rijin— You’re going to kill me with your attempt to woo me in the hallway of all places!” “Then let's move this elsewhere, shall we?”

I can't tell you guys how giddy I am about writing this longfic scene of Silva dancing and just feeling all sorts of emotions and staying composed (mostly.) It's really been so much fun 💜

The music shifted afterward under Ricmorn and Kisan's expert hands with their string instruments. The beat changed to something more lively and up tempo, and Silva let out a joyful laugh when some of her audience clapped along. Oh, the rush it gave her. Perfect. This was exactly what she imagined— what she wanted. Muscles and ligaments that weren’t used to being pulled and stretched twinged and groaned, quiet complaints under memory from the last time she danced. (That was… what? Several months ago? And even then, the dancer knew she would wake tomorrow with deep aches from her efforts, but they would be worth it, a fate she was happy to accept. Especially when the room and her face was lit up with radiant smiles. Silva swore Hien wore the brightest one when her eyes dared to steal a glimpse of him after a lazy spin. And the things it did to her heart was— She continued her dancing, her focus unchanged. Letting her hips and body sway and roll with the song's momentum — the beat of her heart. Her sore muscles pushed to the back of her mind. What little jewelry she wore and the glimmering metals chains decorating her outfit jingled with each step, following the beat, adding another layer to the building music. Tink, tink, tink. With each metallic sound, her chakrams buzzed with aether, begging to be let free to fly. But not yet. Tried. Searched. Hoped and prayed for a miracle. Longed for something out of her reach or that could somehow fill that void — devour the torrent that was her darker emotions. Only to find something else. Something that didn't quite fill the empty space in her heart and soul, yet did. Sadness turned to joy. Heartbreak turned to healing. Grief turned to hope. Anger turned into gentle understanding, soft reassurances, and acceptance. Silva was still herself, still learning — growing. Human. She was still human at the end of the day: flaws and all. Someone new to her circle reminded her of the fact, restoring some of her faith in it. Faith within herself. Gods and kami bless him. Between the warm comfort, kind words, sweet gestures, and the young lord's deep understanding, Silva was able to heal some of those traumatic scars. She promised herself that she would do her best to remember for the rest of her days. Oh, she would miss him when she and her fellow Scions would have to leave to return home. The friendship she and Hien had forged was a bright spot in her life. She would miss his laugh, his crooked smile, and well-timed playfulness that came with his spirit. The way he could take her breath away and make her heart race. Even now, she— With another lazy circle and sway, her long tail quivering, she shoved the thought to the side. Silva knew Ricmorn wouldn't let her forget Hien's remarks, either. Not when her husband was grateful for Hien's empathy and That he would advise her to hold that belief close every single day if she asked him.

It wasn’t until a short time after he had left that Silva noticed she wasn't alone again — a crowd of Domans and a few Xaela visiting from the Steppe had gathered to watch. Their faint murmuring and remarks caught her horns between jabs of her dual blades and fast punches. Her skin prickled at the sensation of their gazes locked onto her. Curious. Intrigued by the rare sight of the Warrior of Light training publicly. The woman who helped gain Doma her freedom and was the khagan of the Steppe. Way too curious for her liking, that is. She soon grew uncomfortable with the unwanted attention, fumbling with her skills and weapons, even with her back to them. Though the top she wore covered the worst of the scarring on her back, anyone stopping by the public training yard could see the jagged edges peaking through the cutouts in the fabric. Silvery slash marks that stood out against her pale blue-gray skin. Marks that were easy to find, easy to trace. Usually, she could tune it out. She could put it to the back of her mind and force herself to focus on the task at hand. But that was with friends — most of the time — not strangers. Never with strangers. Facing away from the curious entourage the entire time, Silva quickly became self-conscious of everything she did, too distracted to pay attention to her movements. Anxiety twisted hard in her stomach. No amount of rationalizing that she was fine — that they wouldn't pay attention to her scars — could chase the feeling away. Thankfully, someone unexpected came to her aid before things could get worse. Before fear could take full control. Hien, who walked by the yard on his way to a meeting elsewhere in the Enclave, noticed the sizeable crowd and stopped, wondering what was happening. Something like this was rare. The young lord weaved his way through the people to find a frazzled Silva striking at a training dummy. Her motions and hits were awkward, clumsy. It wasn't like her at all. But when her frantic gaze caught his, fear bright in her sea-green eyes, he kindly stepped in — knowing that she was too nice to speak up for herself sometimes. However, he understood why it wasn't the best idea in this case. Nor did he fault her. Hien gained the attention of the crowd, thanking them for their audience, but politely asked them to leave Silva be and return to their day. He even doubled down when some of the younger people protested. Still kind and polite, but with an edge to his voice. Silva watched on for a moment, frozen in place, before glancing at her feet as she let him take control of the situation. Disappointed mumbling filled the air as they dispersed. Yet, no one dared to challenge him. And with each person who disappeared from her sight, the knot in her gut loosened. Gods and kami bless him. She was grateful — beyond grateful — for his kind aid. He waited for the last of the stragglers to leave before walking up to the Auri woman, giving her a warm smile that spoke more than words could give her at the moment. And made her heart flutter, but she wouldn't say that aloud. Not while they were out in public. Silva was quick to return it and voice her gratitude when he asked if she was alright. The feeling grew tenfold when Hien offered her the use of his private training yard if she desired to continue without being disturbed again. Without thinking, she said yes, grasping his arms in excitement. A bright, deep laugh shook his shoulders when his beloved agreed, grinning when the flush painting her cheeks darkened as he guided her to the location. After a quick look around to see they were alone, he gave her a chaste kiss and told her he would see her later in the evening for dinner. She thanked him again, stealing another brush of lips before he left to finish his duties for the day. Silva resumed her training once Hien was out of sight, eager for time to pass by now that she knew she would see him later.

So… this was the missing young Lord of Doma. The one Yugiri talked about so often when they were children living in Sui-no-Sato, and when providing her and their fellow Domans a safe space to live back in Eorzea after the failed rebellion. Whose letters made her pale green eyes light up when she would tell Silva about them. The very same man that Gosetsu hoped and prayed they would find to drag back home for a second chance at freedom. The way he crumbled to his knees and bowed his head, choked with emotion as he addressed him, was still so fresh in her mind. And they welcomed each other with kind greetings and open arms, almost as if they hadn't been apart for three years. It was a homecoming that those three needed, but also didn't expect. Not entirely. It wasn't one the Auri Warrior of Light expected either. Seeing Hien Rijin alive and whole after being presumed dead for so long seemed as if the gods and kami had their hands in his tale. Their reunion brought her joy, yet it also made her heart ache — a dull pain behind her ribs. There weren't many people who were as fortunate as they were, especially those from Doma. Silva was one of them. She would never see her parents or the woman who became her aunt ever again, a fact that haunted her all these years later. And even now, returning to her homeland after fourteen years hasn't been easy. She forced the thought aside — it had no place here. And as the prince and his two retainers stood several yalms away for a private discussion of their next steps — or perhaps to make certain this meeting was real — Silva couldn't help but watch. The corners of his eyes crinkled when a cheerful smile lit up his face. How his broad shoulders and chest shook with belly-deep laughter at hearing something his old mentor said. More importantly, she noticed how the sound seemed to both his retainers at ease. Something so simple yet made her lips curve into a smile. He gave Gosetsu and Yugiri equal attention and a chance to speak. Silva found it difficult not to laugh as her eyes caught his hands at his side and on the hilt of his katana twitch — to use them while they talked. What an interesting quick for the two of them to share… she thought to herself. (Though even if she kept her hands still, her tail never failed to give herself and her emotions away.) Had he done that during their introduction? But she also saw his lips dip into a frown. There was a muscle in his jaw that ticked every time something said bothered him, the fingers on his left hand curling tighter around his blade. How his expression would harden and his stance would shift. And how the look would soften just ever so slightly when his gaze flicked over and lingered on her for several heartbeats before looking away. The gold flecks in his peridot orbs shimmered in the sun. Four times now, she counted. She would be lying if she didn't admit that each glance made her breath catch or her heart leap into her throat. If it didn't fill her belly with butterflies.

Silva cleared her throat. “You can ask about them if you’d like, Hien. I do not mind, really. I understand you have an idea of what the story behind them is, that Ricmorn has told you some things. It would be impossible for me to blame you for the questions you have about it." She faced forward again, her gaze falling on the wrinkled blanket covering the front of her body. The silk was soft under her fingers. "And… I'm not blind to the fact you would have seen my scars in all their glory — one way or another. I'm glad it's happening.” Yes, it was better to see them like this now instead of being intimate with each other when they were ready to cross that line. That would have been far more embarrassing — far more vulnerable. Or if she would have gotten past it if it had happened that way. She didn't think she would… A few seconds of silence passed before he muttered. "To think you would honor me with that…" Silva thought it was ridiculous and sweet how his soft words made her breath hitch. "Who says you weren't worthy from the start?" she half-laughed. The Doman king would be lying to himself to say that he wasn’t curious about their story — her story. To know a part of Silva that she kept hidden. So they could be closer. Everything she said was true. He had seen small glimpses of the faded edges peeking out from any gear that exposed parts of her upper back and shoulders. Where two of the slashes began and ended, but nothing of what may lie in between them. Their shapes and outlines were always up to his imagination. (Or how smaller blemishes covered her back like pale freckles — like tiny stars — thanks to their proximity to each other.) The first time he remembered them was during the Naadam when they fought the Garleans, fighting together with their Xaela allies to defend the Steppe. Another time, her uncle gifted her dancer garb and her mother's chakrams, and she danced, spinning and leaping. Then it was when they were building their beloved garden behind his home. Silva wore loose, breathable clothing in the scorching sun as she worked, tending to vibrant flora, rich, dark soil, and heavy stone with care. Each shift of cloth revealed more and more to him. In the moments of silence, as they watched the starry heavens above them, side by side, his hand on her back and knowing what was underneath the thin tank tops she wore to bed — moments where their love grew and grew. Where the gravity between them was almost impossible to ignore. He saw them as pieces of a puzzle of the woman he deeply cared for and cherished. But still, he never pried the tale from her lips. Still waited. And when they became a couple, Hien saw more of the scars when she wore loose clothing in the evenings while they spent time together. Kami— he almost saw all of her scars in their entirety when they got somewhat carried away in the heat of the moment after agreeing to court. But he knew what little Ricmorn had shared with him in private when he first asked, his intrigue getting the better of him. It was a very sensitive subject for both of them to talk about openly, and he respected their privacy. He still refused to pressure for more. For Silva to be comfortable around him and have an open conversation about it now… A chance for him to tend to them intimately for the first time was an enormous step for the Auri woman in front of him and their relatively new relationship. Great pride and love for her filled his heart for how she trusted him with something like this. Hien wouldn't squander the opportunity Silva offered.

"I'm going to touch you now," Hien said, pulling away enough to face her again. The jar in his palm suddenly felt heavy. "Is that okay? And if I do something that hurts or makes you feel uncomfortable, you'll tell me?" A quiet hum left Silva before she nodded. The tenderness in his voice and actions surprised and startled her — in a good way. "Go ahead." She playfully bumped her shoulder against his arm, the tip of her tail brushing against his side before swishing behind her. "I trust you, Hien." Those words held more weight to them that only the three of them knew and understood. He kissed her left shoulder. "Thank you." The young lord set the jar of cooling balm beside him, resting one palm on her shoulder while his other hand rested at her slender waist. A gesture of goodwill and an anchor for his beloved. His eyes drank in the sight of old, healed wounds decorating the expanse of Silva's back. Four slashes — claw marks — of various lengths and sizes marred the upper half of her back and shoulder blades, while clusters of much smaller dots scattered where the former didn't touch. Hien could only imagine how much pain they caused her, past and present, and how it affected her. What she had endured before their paths crossed. His stomach lurched at the thought, frowning. The hand at her waist left, wandering before he realized it. Calloused fingertips gently traced one of the smooth-jagged edges of the second slash, the slightly darker blue-gray scar stretching from her right shoulder to the middle of her left shoulder blade at an angle. And she let him, remaining still. He did the same with the one under it — the longest of the four. Slow and gentle. The shiny skin was soft as he continued to examine the scars. But when Silva took in a shuddering breath, stiffening for a few seconds at his curious exploration, Hien paused. Fearing he had hurt her somehow, he mumbled an apology, his fingers pulling back as words left his lips, only stopping when she relaxed. "No, Hien—" Silva rasped, trying to speak. Except the emotions that surged within her during his careful discovery were trying to take control. Gods— Hien waited for a minute, giving her time to collect herself before quietly prodding her for a clearer answer. "Silva?" She took another shaky breath, steadying herself. “I'm okay, I promise. No need to apologize to me, [my heart,]” she dismissed him with a light laugh. "I gave you permission to help, after all. That means you have to see and touch them so you can." The tip of her tail brushed against his arm, encouraging him to continue, as she did not mind his careful, explorative touch. Silva didn't speak again until she felt his fingers return to her back. “Besides, it's not your fault I froze. I still react that way with Ricmorn sometimes when he tends to them." A murmur of agreement coming from her husband as he listened in added to the bitter truth. "It’s… a bad habit that I’m still working hard to get rid of. I would love nothing more, but it's—” “Difficult?” he finished for her, understanding where she was coming from his experience with his own scars. Hien's lips found her shoulder again when she sighed, nodding. “As silly as it seems when saying it aloud, yes.” She took a deep breath, carding a small hand through her short purple and magenta waves. "I feel like a fool." A huff of laughter left the young lord as he rubbed soothing strokes on her back with his thumb. When she dared to glance over her shoulder at Hien, he offered her a warm smile. "If it helps…" he started, holding her gaze. "I don't think it's silly or foolish at all, [Wildflower.] Not when you're being vulnerable." Not when she was with him. It helped more than Silva would admit. Not that she needed to, not when Hien knew without her confirming or denying it. The blush dusting her cheeks gave her away, too.

"Honestly, when I first got the idea to pull you away to steal a moment for myself, I thought you would be upset or angry," Silva mumbled, avoiding Hien's gaze. And yet looking off to the side did little to protect her from the feeling of his eyes boring into her. "Or scold me at least." A curious hum bounced around in her ivory horns. "Is that so?" Hien questioned. Gentle — that was his tone of voice. Kind enough to give her the room to speak if she desired, but also space for her to back away and keep to herself. She didn't have to elaborate if she didn't want to. This was something the young lord had offered her from the very start, from that grassy hill in the Azim Stepe to this moment in the Doman Enclave, their homeland freed. Something Silva would never deny she needed or enjoyed. There was safety here — always. But Hien had a way of encouraging her to share the thoughts circling her head. With a simple touch, gesture, look, or voice that held no ill intent or harm, he could get her to open up and say the words lingering on her lips. It could be now or it could be days away; it mattered not. His patience paid off time and time again, and he rewarded her with understanding.

And when she dared to steal a glance at Hien, the young lord was looking at her the same way he did when they first met a few months ago. His eyes were wide with wonder and curiosity and… something else. Something that sank into her bones and felt so familiar in a way she didn’t understand. It made her stomach do somersaults. It made her want to draw closer and dig deeper into whatever this was — a connection that was unexplainable and unexpected. (A fact she knew that day in the Azim Steppe and was still so very real to her now.) What he saw in her that only he could see. And when he caught her looking his way, Hien’s lips twisted into that ridiculous lopsided smile she loved, stealing her breath. A smile that Silva would miss when she and her companions returned home. Her heart fluttered against her ribs as some deep part of her soul stirred to life, as the world stopped for what felt like eons but was just for a few seconds. Dangerous questions filled her head, slipping through the seams. What was this? How could Hien make her thoughts spin and spin without even trying? Have her question everything? Was she the only one who felt this way, or did he feel it too? And if he did… what then? What did that exactly mean for them — did it mean anything for them? “So, Silva… What song do you wish for us to play for you tonight?”

“Ricmorn.” What sounded like a greeting to the others in the room, it was a playful warning for her husband to think before acting. A deep chuckle shook his towering frame, almost as if saying he was behaving and would keep his hands to himself. An unspoken promise. She rolled her eyes at the same time his lips grazed her blushing cheek. Once, twice— three times. But Silva would be a fool if she didn’t admit to herself that his longing to shower her with love didn’t ignite something in her. “You’re beautiful, Silv,” he said as he pulled away, carefully turning her around to face him. The soft expression on his face and the tempered, wild look in his sky-blue eyes spoke more than words could, at the moment, at least. She was sure she would hear and feel them later if he got her alone. He smirked as if he knew what she was thinking. “So beautiful. You keep discovering ways just to remind me, to keep me on my toes and on edge.” The things you do to me. The things you make me feel and need. How the world all simply fell away when it was just her before him. He didn’t need to voice the thought to know she understood. “I am a lucky man…” he murmured, before pressing the softest of kisses to her mouth. And Silva was just as lucky as him. If it weren’t for the fact that his hands were still at her waist, holding her steady, she would have melted to the floor when his lips brushed against hers. There were more unspoken promises there. A kiss full of love, want, and magic — of later. She stole another soft, sweet kiss from Ricmorn as their friends cheered or teased them. (Well, almost all of them. Silva was sure Yugiri was pretending nothing was happening with a frown on her face. Not that it would stop them.) “A lucky, handsome man who still seems to be slightly tipsy,” Silva joked after pulling away, tapping the point of his nose with a finger. She bit her lip when he blinked several times. “Careful now. You’re practically showing me and everyone else all the cards and emotions you have up your sleeves, darling.” Ricmorn’s brow furrowed when she giggled. And when amusement danced brightly in her gaze, a low growl left him. Gods help him. “Wicked woman,” he grumbled low enough for just her to hear, shaking his head as his beige-scaled tail swished. “Yet you love me all the same,” was her retort. She reached for his face, her thumbs rubbing against his slightly flushed cheeks. “Just like I love you.” His expression softened again. “That I do,” he promised, his lips finding the inside of her palm. “Always.”

Hien chuckled as he watched her fumble around for words to say, taking the balm from Ricmorn before leaning down to press a kiss to her blushing cheek. Silva fell silent, a soft rumble leaving her instead of syllables. He waited to see if she would squirm away from him or protest at the idea, her wary gaze watching him, but when she didn't, he let go of the breath he was holding. "It's okay," he promised. His fingers lightly tapped against her light blue-gray skin. He asked, hesitating, “May I? However, I'll understand if you say no, Silva. Give you whatever space you need.” He just wanted to help her in whatever way he could — in whatever way she allowed. Hoping she would let him into her world a little more. Silva wet her lips, her breath stuttering. "I— You… would be comfortable with that?" If Hien heard the slight disbelief — the hesitant uncertainty in her voice — he didn't speak of it. He didn't fault her for it. Instead, he offered Silva more gentle reassurance as his thumb grazed against the ivory scales on the back of her neck. And he did it without an onze of judgment. "I would be more than comfortable in giving you aid with something I'm very familiar with myself." "I… I see." She smiled shyly at him, clutching a blanket to her bare chest as she sat up to face him while she tried to force her anxiety down. Her eyes darted all over his face, trying to find anything that wasn't as kind or honest as his words expressed. But of course, she found nothing but love and concern. An unspoken assurance he wouldn't push if asked. The choice was hers to make. "To think you would offer me kindness for the third time today. Who would have thought?" Her horns caught Ricmorn's faint snort as he walked away, offering them space. A hint of amusement danced in his gaze, and it sent her heart fluttering. "You say that as if you don't deserve kindness in moments like this, Silva." His knuckles brushed against her horn next, feeling each dip, ridge, and groove. "We both know the answer is that you do," he said, voice sweet. "Especially in vulnerable situations such as this, I would say it's even more deserved, [Wildflower.]" There was no point in trying to argue with him. She wouldn't win. Silva nodded, gaze softening. “You may… but you have to give me a proper kiss first, Hien,” she said, her voice low and flirty. Her long tail flicked against the warm silk sheets at the brief flash of heat in his gaze. "The one you gave me earlier in the day wasn't enough, I'm afraid. You owe me that much." The young lord’s smile twisted into a wide grin at her teasing demand. “Is that so?" he pondered. "Gladly.” Silva giggled when his palm rested against her warm cheek and leaned in to claim her mouth with his in a sweet kiss. One kiss turned into two. Two turned into three. More. Their lips moved in sync for several long minutes before Hien tilted her head slightly to the side to deepen the kiss. She couldn't help the sigh leaving her, shivering as his fingers ghosted over the scales on the side of her face to cup her chin, only for him to muffle the sound in short order. But not before she heard his pleased rumble of satisfaction. Oh, they needed this after being separated for most of the day. That chaste brushing of lips he gave her earlier wasn't enough for either of them, it seemed. It never was. A quiet, content hum escaped him as she carefully weaved her fingers through his ponytail with her free hand, giving it a light tug and giggling when the mischievous action made him groan. The slight edge of hunger in that sound was unmistakable. “You little minx,” he teased after breaking the kiss.
