40 kya. A 𝘜𝘳𝘴𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘴 𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘩𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴 exits a basaltic cave into the grassland of Penghu Islands with her young, treading carefully in bear country. Males of her kind can reach twice her weight - bigger than the ginormous 𝘜. 𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘴 “𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘴” at over a ton - and are cannibalistic towards cubs.

In today’s botanical illustration practice, the teacher plucked some flora as our drawing model, resulting in a buncha confusedly homeless ants and aphids. I feel bad for not lumping all the withered stems back onto the lawn, so I’m confessing here.

First time joining #paleostream but I’m a really slow drawer, so I took my time and finished the rest. It was challenging but fun. Thanks @sauriancyh.bsky.social for inviting me today.

We practiced non-avian dinosaurs at this week’s scientific illustration class. It was hard as F (it still is). Also I got the proportions wrong. Also it needs more flufffffff

Giant golden orbweaver size comparison, female (top) vs. male (bottom).

As the largest web-weaving spider alive, it spins enormous orb webs threaded together by the toughest known biomaterial that trap songbirds or even small snakes.

500 thousand years ago along a tranquil riverside in Pleistocene Taiwan, a giant 𝘛𝘰𝘺𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘪𝘢 𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘴 surfaces from the dusky waters. At 7 meters, it is the lord of local freshwater ecosystems.
