to wit: blade runner 2049 doesn't remove the mystery of deckard's nature in the first film; it's a wholly separate work that, as its conceit, happens to take place after BR and happens to have that deckard, just as the first film had the conceit that it was the future and replicants were real

my tangential take on this is that depending on nature of the serialization, each installment is either weakly or strongly a wholly discrete story that can never truly be affected by the subsequent ones
