This cabinet card caught my eye. There’s quite a bit of 19th photo editing going on here. This little boy (indicated by the large lacy collar and style of dress) has an entire floral motif surrounding him that is overlaid to form the teardrop frame. There is a blur to the background behind him.

When things are difficult, maintaining ritual is helpful in maintaining sanity. I have been baking challah and lighting candles every week since Oct 7. That day was a stark reminder that my comfort and complacency as an American, diaspora Jew did not protect me. עם ישראל חי 🧡🧡🧡

I remember reading about how during the Shoa the Nazis killed Jewish babies to save bullets. I remember seeing a picture of this. It is burned into the inside of my eyelids. It is that image that I see for the Bibas boys and it it nauseating. May their memories be a blessing

In Yiddish, we call them “pishers”. And yes, the similarity to the word “pisser” is exactly the word’s origin.

That’s not true. There are Palestinians that live in Israel. They live in the West Bank and Gaza. Jordan was the Arab split of the land. They have that too. And if you want to learn about ethnic cleansing, please read about the Hebron massacre of 1929.
