I sincerely hope that the relatively monied and doughty DOJ movement is willing and able to support those arrested today through their court processes and potentially beyond. I agree totally with them that these arrests are an obscenity.

the risk of actions like today’s is, unfortunately, that the UK courts are well set up to process hundreds of people quickly. this has been the case since the 2011 riots, when magistrate’s courts were pressed into service to try hundreds of people within weeks.

a terrorism conviction in the UK can affect your employment, your banking, your ability to travel, for the rest of your life. unlike other offences, it’s never “spent”, so will always show up on any credit or DBS check. for those without UK citizenship it can mean detention or deportation.

the grounds given for arrest were mostly s13 TACT. s13 doesn’t attract a jury trial, so these people if charged will all be prosecuted in magistrate’s courts, by district judges who know full well this tactic is an attempt to overthrow proscription powers.

again, so far as I can tell, of those taken to stations, only those who have existing bail conditions are being interviewed. everyone else is being bailed once they’ve given their details.
August 9, 2025 at 8:27 PM
as far as I can tell, only those who didn’t give their details on the street have been taken to stations (and lots of police station support is needed outside those stations! please, if you can, contact CASP on 07783 176190 and offer your time!) - the rest were bailed and let go.

lots of speculation about the police not having enough cells to cope.

most people tonight aren’t in cells. the majority were bailed in the open air processing area the police set up by the foreign office.

there was lots of talk pre today’s action about the proscription of PA being unenforceable. we saw it enforced today. police were keen on a show of force, it seems.

if you’re thinking of writing it I would loop in DSEI and international union opposition to the transportation of arms and point out there are very many accessible ways for people to make the UK an inhospitable place for arms manufacture and sales

the full session of the Women and Equalities Committee today is below. it’s fairly heartening watching from a trans perspective. the clip above is 1hr 52min-ish in, or 16.17 GMT on the screen clock.

Faulkner sat there and said “article 8 rights don’t apply” to us.
