I use Macs to turn caffeine into bugs. Occasional KitchenAid mixer content tagged #Mixerology. He/him.
Bela is gorgeous; thanks for sharing his story with us, and also MAD PROPS for being the Designated Human for a cockatoo. I have a friend who had a 'too for many years, and his experience with AJ (RIP) was very similar to yours.

My red-butted jungle chickens send their regards to you & your flock.

“Eggs for sale in the auto parts store” was not on my bingo card for the day.

Happy Candymas to all who observe! Here's your annual reminder that a mixer bowl makes a great dispenser, and leftover Peppermint Patties can be mooshed up in ice cream.

Here is Reggie, gone nearly ten years but her hairs still turn up from time to time.

A rare sight: a flock of ebony-headed latches after a feeding.

I use a small pool of JB Weld as bait. Each one takes a bit and then they withdraw to allow the others in the flock to partake.

I think I figured out why the motor doesn't work. (IYKYK) #Lucas #PrinceOfDarkness

UPDATE: I got the bowl cradle to move! 🎉 I applied penetrating oil and gave the assembly a week to think about its life choices, and then this evening I gave it a few light taps with a recoilless hammer, and voilà! The cradle goes up and down now.

You better hope he's on our side. If he had opposable thumbs he'd be (even more of) a menace. #Parrot #AfricanGrey

Here are the books that came with it. The manual is fantastic; it actually contains a guide for opening the gear case and performing maintenance.

This machine is completely locked up: nothing moves. The bowl cradle is frozen, the gear shift lever is frozen, the screws that aren't rusted in place are painted over, generally it's a disaster. It's going to take a long time and a lot of penetrating oil to get this thing apart.

The mixer came with a cabinet on which the mixer sat, and it had labeled compartments for all of the accompanying items and accessories. This one's cabinet is long gone, but the owner saved the identifying plates.

The motor runs at a fixed speed, and speed changes are effected by a gear-shifted transmission. The interlock which prevents you from shifting gears while the mixer is running also functions as the power switch.

The attachment hub is the bog-standard Hobart #10 hub. It accepts modern attachments, too.

Here's a VS-7 "baby pelican" slicer/shredder attachment. It's got an ice crusher wheel (not shown) which is the stuff of nightmares.

What the hell is this thing?! It's a couple of porcelain rollers on a spring-loaded shaft that mounts on the beater shaft.

Turns out it's for the colander/sieve attachment.

Here's the original bowl (tin-plated steel, and yes I *will* be getting it retinned) and accessories: wire whisk, dough hook, flat beater, and pastry cutter.

The modern bowl for the K5SS fits right in the bowl cradle.

It came with a box full of original accessories, the original manuals, and some really nifty attachments.

This machine was purchased new by the owner's family. It was in their basement for the past twenty years. It was repainted at some point, and most of the new paint (and a lot of the original) is pretty flaky.

I picked something up this weekend! (CW: old things, heavy lifting.)

This is a KitchenAid model H-5, manufactured (based on its serial number) in 1924. The body is made of cast iron and it weighs about 70lb.
