Seeing as it's an international break and hence no preview this week, here are my brief thoughts on those being linked to the Cov job thus far - plus Ruben Selles, who I really think we should be considering.
Lee Carsley Plays good football, gets the best out of young players. Probably would work well long-term. Would he be able to get quick results to get us out of relegation danger? Is he available? Not sure how interested he really is in being a manager at senior level. Frank Lampard Shortcomings in his career thus far have probably been overstated. Would bring a great coaching staff (maybe could get Viveash back?) and has great connections for loan players. Might do a better job than expected but unlikely to be revolutionary. Ruud van Nistelrooy Did fairly well at PSV. Has the prestige of a big name. Only has one year of managerial experience. On top of that, has only played and coached at the highest levels. How much does he know of Championship football and how quickly can he learn? An unknown quantity. Matt Bloomfield Has Wycombe top of League One and has shown he can mix up the team's style based on the opposition. Has only one full season of experience at one club. Suspect it would be too big a step too soon in his career. Robbie Keane Not a great deal of experience but won the league and reached the last 16 in Europe with Maccabi Tel Aviv last year. Not sure what kind of style he'd bring. Another fairly unknown quantity. Michael Skubala Good coaching background. Turned Lincoln City around quite impressively last season, focusing on defensive structure before turning them into a strong attacking force. Hasn't had a full season as a manager, main doubt as to whether he could step up to what could be a pressurised situation at a higher level. Ruben Selles Brings a clear style of play (high pressing) which has turned a Reading side in disarray off-the-pitch into one of the better League One teams. Experience coaching at a high level should stand him in good stead to make the step up.
