Honestly, it's a fascinating topic. We have a project examining how the virome has shaped the evolution of T cells through primates, and it's crazy how much variability there is, even in such a small evolutionary window.

I met a person in FL who studied echinoderm TLRs. Their system is quite tractable since they can fuse the echinoderm TLR ectodomain to a murine TIR domain and screen for NFkB activation. She said the challenge was purifying microbial ligands (although a lot seem to bind nucleic acid variants)

Incredibly stereotypical but "And The Band Played On" so that students understand how government apathy can make outbreaks worse, and "Arrowsmith" because it's kind of incredible to think that people had a concept of phage therapy in the 1920s
