In aviation but incurably curious about renewable energy & clean tech. Blame the Physics degree
@wiilp.bsky.social what’s your average p/kWh? I’m on intelligent and getting 8.5p overall! Just wondering if I can be bothered with agile

I mean, if you have a medical emergency in the next month or so, you have a good change of an ambulance arriving in a reasonable time.

This has just not been the case in most of the UK for several winters now, and will make an enormous difference to a lot of people.

Put it this way: any cloud & you lose probably 75%, so I wouldn’t say that’s no problem, thick cloud and it’s 95%+

Don’t get me wrong, it’s brilliant and I knew it would be like this.

But I think some solar advocates can get a bit ahead of themselves & promise things that aren’t going to happen

11.7kWp - 26 panels.

Friday was absolutely vile. Very thick cloud and didn’t stop pissing it down all day.

Tell me more…

I used to live in Lincoln. A bit before I moved there, around the turn of the millennium there was a proposal to recreate the spires - but they’d have to be fibreglass for cost & weight reasons. Apparently people didn’t want the change, but I think that’d have been quite cool.

All sounds very encouraging. If it were a western company I’d be sceptical, but the Chinese have a way of keeping to their claims so I look forward to seeing what comes. Exciting times

The lower energy density is more of an issue than you might think for BESS.

If you can’t fit as many in a container, you’ll need more containers, wires, ground works etc. All this pushes up the cost per kWh.

Like @stockfttp.bsky.social says, Na still has a way to go, but v promising nonetheless

Oh no! What a shock. And a huge loss of a highly effective advocate for the transition. Easily on the right side of history, to his credit. Rest in peace Quentin.

Random thought: Are we going to be able to build multi-storey BESS or is the fire containment not possible? I think the Oxford Li/flow hybrid has a staggered mezzanine design. Why not keep going and really densify what you can get out of an acre in a densely populated country?

I got mine read during the service the other day as I’m thinking of selling soon - buyers need confidence the battery is good.

100% of stated capacity available at 81,000miles / 130,000km.
And I don’t faff with it going beyond 80% etc etc. Very rarely charge away from home though.
