Like others, I currently cannot access ASSIST through eRA commons. It looks like Help Desk tickets are not being reviewed at this time.

LOOK HOW PRETTY MY FIRST EVER SINGLE CELL RNASEQ SAMPLE ISSSSS!!! 🎉

I cannot contain my smile right now. So much work has gone into this project, and this UMAP of a fetal mouse basal ganglia was a pilot test of feasibility before I process every sample. I'm so nervous & excited & I love science.

#OperantChamberArt by one of my undergrad RAs. The white boards are for identifying subjects in each chamber & listing their day's experiment.

Drawing our research team as mice is just an extra sum'n special 😜

It's Hill Day.

Time to remind five Congressional offices how important federal research funding is.

My students are ready to advocate, and we have comfy shoes. Let's go.

Yesterday the President signed a new EO calling for a full review of existing grants/contracts for waste, fraud, and abuse, with priority review of grants/contracts for education institutions. The order sets a 30-day timeline for agencies to conduct these reviews and terminate unnecessary contracts.

See y'all in Austin.

Over the summer, 3 of my undergrad RAs applied to a training program for communicating the importance of scientific research to politicians. I never could have predicted how timely these meetings would be.

We all visit Capitol Hill on March 3. Our first set of meetings are booked. More to come.

My undergrad RA Tia won Best Student Poster at the Texas Association of City & County Health conference this week! There were only two poster awards: one for health department employees, and one for all student presenters. She sought out this conference entirely on her own. I'm so proud of her. 🥳

Importantly, we determined that prenatal co-exposure to alcohol and synthetic cannabinoids exacerbates offspring mortality and induces sex-specific deficits in neurobehavioral motor outcomes.

In this study, we report that paternal alcohol exposure by itself alters offspring behaviors & produces distinct outcomes when combined with maternal alcohol exposure. We hope to emphasize the importance of paternal substance use in consideration of FASD development.

It helps to have a second pair of eyes review the behavioral experiment schedule for the upcoming semester.

Of course they recorded my reaction to receiving this gift...

I had to make a separate post from yesterday's award announcement to highlight the amazing gift my RAs made for me: clay mouse version of THEMSELVES as lab mice!

I can't really describe how I feel, except overwhelmed and deeply humbled. I am grateful for this environment, and specifically for the people who have made me feel so valued, and who have fostered my moderately ridiculous ambitions so graciously.
