✨ Did you know unlike many shorebirds with harsh calls, spoon-billed sandpipers produce soft, melodic whistles, which they use for communication during breeding season..🐾✨

Despite these threats, conservation efforts are making a difference. In 2009, the YUS Conservation Area was established to protect the rainforest in the northern Huon Peninsula. Named after the Yopno, Uruwa, and Som rivers, providing a crucial sanctuary for tree-kangaroos and other wildlife.

They face multiple threats that put their survival at risk. Deforestation due to logging, agriculture, and oil drilling is rapidly destroying their rainforest home. Hunting is another serious issue—local communities hunt them for meat and fur, further reducing their already small population.

Ever heard of a kangaroo that lives in trees? This adorable and rare marsupial is found only in the Huon Peninsula of Papua New Guinea and is sadly endangered due to habitat destruction and hunting.
