Quite agree. We players hope to see more professional judges instead of just more judges.

I'm also trying to find information about the Rules Manager role, but sources are quite scarce online. I would really appreciate the chance to connect with you. If you're open to chatting, please send me a DM. 2/2

Hi there! I hope you don't mind me commenting. I noticed you’ve collected a lot of rules questions regarding Koh* and often interact with Matt. I’m a rules enthusiast myself and I'm also compiling questions about Koh—that card is incredibly complex! 1/2

Very interesting question. Looking forward to the answer.

Does Koh have the ability of B, have the ability of A, or just have no ability of A nor B? 2/2
Thank you sincerely for always helping me patiently.

I am not Matt, but I would appreciate it if you could allow me to join the discussion.
608.2 indicates If an effect of a spell or ability offers any choices the player can’t choose an option that’s illegal or impossible.
So I think we cannot say yes to the second trigger ability.

Thank you very much for your reply!
It was my fault. I missed 712.11b.

It seems 707.8a is the way Wotc hope the interaction to follow? And in that way, we can cast the back face. However, 707.8a talks about how we creates a token which is the copy of a double face card. But Shiko doesn't directly creates a token. It copies a card in the graveyard.

In graveyard, Gwen only has characteristics of its front face. So the copy only has front face, and I can only cast front face.
September 22, 2025 at 9:04 AM
As far as I am concerned, I cannot. Shiko creates a copy of Gwen Stacy in my graveyard.
712.8a While a double-faced card is outside the game or in a zone other than the battlefield or stack, it has only the characteristics of its front face.

400.7. An object that moves from one zone to another becomes a new object with no memory of, or relation to, its previous existence. This rule has the following exceptions.
I can understand why madness can work well. It is because of 400.7e. But I am not sure how mayhem works with CR.

Hello, Matt. I am sorry to bother you, but I really wnat to know the answer. Have you found out the answer? It is important to me, who plays Lotus field in Pioneer.
June 22, 2025 at 3:25 PM
And will Wotc do something with 614.12? Or they just plan to make it stay the same?
I think this is an important thing to me. While related interactions may happen in Standard, many players ask about it. And even many experienced judges I know are confused about these interactions.
June 22, 2025 at 3:18 PM
Some people like Isaac King think 614.12 is not clear enough. It doesn't really talk about every situation we meet, or at least we can not always know what Wotc wants the interatcions to be like through 614.12.
Is this opinion real, or 614.12 is totally clear enough, we just misunderstand it?

Very sorry to bother you again, dear Matt. But I just found that you mentioned a saga enters with two counters with Doubling Season in FINAL FANTASY MECHANICS:https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/final-fantasy-mechanics
I am a little bit confused. Which answer shall we follow?

This sounds ridiculous. So I think we cannot think 714.3a is related to a replacement ability. It is just a rule and doesn't interact with Doubling Season.
June 12, 2025 at 4:47 AM
An effect is the result of a spell or ability. We all agree that it is not an ability, because a saga land enters with a counter witch Blood Moon on the battlefield. If it is an ability, this cannot happen. If we think 714.3a is an effect, and it is not an ability, it can only be result of a spell.
June 12, 2025 at 4:46 AM
Compared with 306.5a. It says celarly that it is an ability which makes planeswalkers enter with conuters. So I can understand that Dounbling season doubles the counters planeswalkers enter with.
But 714.3a doesn't really say like that.
June 12, 2025 at 4:41 AM
306.5b A planeswalker has the intrinsic ability “This permanent enters with a number of loyalty counters on it equal to its printed loyalty number.” This ability creates a replacement effect (see rule 614.1c).
