A little headcanon I wrote for a now defunct RP server about Riku’s relationship with his body. Implied #soriku
**BODY DYSMORPHIA.** The last time his body actually feels like it’s his is when he meets Ansem in the first place. He’s still growing when his body gets stolen by Ansem and changes shape the first time, and he never forgets how it feels. It makes him so sick that he swears he’ll never let it happen again. But what’s he to do when the only way for him to help Sora is to take on the façade of Ansem again for a year, missing his growth spurt and coming back to a body that grew up without him? Or what about when he goes into Sora’s dreams and is back to having the first body again, crammed into it like long outgrown clothes? The things he will do for love. He keeps overshooting his acrobatics. He has scars and birthmarks in the same places but the Dream Eater mark is still on his back. He might not technically be human anymore. Riku’s an adult now. It’s been years since all this started. But it still doesn’t quite feel like his body anymore, no matter how much he spars or works out to try and break it in. It takes him a minute to recognize himself in the mirror. He cut his hair to try and stop seeing Ansem in his reflection, but it did nothing to help him identify himself. This body doesn’t belong to him, but the old ones also no longer fit. He’s always a little too aware of himself. He’s too muscular, he’s lost too much weight, his arms are too long and his hands too big, he swears his eyes used to be this piercing cyan but now they’re the same color as the ocean. It’s a surprise if he pinches his arm and it stings. Sometimes he falls out of sync with himself in a fight and slips up and has to find something to blame it on besides the fact that he feels like he’s puppeting his own body. Less real to him than a replica body would be. Like a ghost possessing itself. (He knows what it feels like to be possessed. There are moments when it feels like his skin is crawling, like there’s something underneath that won’t ever leave.)
