Hm, sounds like a dream engineering design to harvest every last bit of heat from your surroundings.
There's a beauty in a system engineered to preserve every last drop of valuable resource (in this case heat).

I also liked history. A little bit less in English since there's still a language barrier (from Taiwan). Loved my pottery class, and also learned basic knitting (not part of class).

Nah.
I definitely helped that along inadvertently.
But you people are so stupid that trying to save you from yourself takes too much energy. If you're so happy to leap into a boiling pot instead of a nice sauna we're building because it's closer? Well, I'm not going to stop you.

Amazon got their hands on it.
Various game studios are great, until business people got their hands on it.
Steam is great, because business people haven't got their hands on it (and God forbid when that happens).

Industrial programmer.
I would have to add that Peter Thiel, another big name in the tech dystopian, is a philosophy PhD.
So just about every major big name actively driving for a tech dystopia is either a STEM drop out or a humanities degree holder.

Media conglomerate vs torrent
Even now, with AI, people chose to submit to the big tech even AFTER the STEM people pretty much blackmailed said big tech into releasing their models for free.

You chose it.
Every step of the way, the open source software community gave you the tool to avoid the surveillance state. And every step of the way, you choose to become part of it out of convenience or cheap.
Windows vs Linux.
Photoshop vs GIMP/Inkscape
Email vs PGP(end to end email encryption)

That definitely can help. Although there's still a limit on how fast you can pump that heat out. Which still doesn't detract that heat pump is efficient at it

Just look at history and look carefully at the kind of stuff STEM people start. It was almost always good intention with potentially good tools (Google, early OpenAI, etc).
Then everything went to shit when business people (commonly a humanities major or no-higher ed) got involved.

But I guess making a living bitching and moaning about the state of the world without lifting a finger to actually change it is noble.

A bit hard when we don't have the money and everything we build people keeps figuring out novel ways to misuse it.
Or it gets big enough for a humanities major with an eye for profit took it and fuck it over (like Google).
Just look at many tech start up. They all started by people wanting

Your wife will go far in non-traditional CS jobs (maybe industrial programming?).
Most of the good ones end up there. Good work life balance and less bullshitting (since people's lives depend on your work).

STEM has been trying to build solutions to our problems. Humanities are the ones constantly bitching and moaning about "how expensive it is" and "how inconvenient it is".

Well, how do you expect us to make a living?
Either we make stuff and humanities majors steal it (early software)
Or we make stuff and humanities majors misuse it (AI).
Hey, non-STEM majors are the ones in control of most of the money.

So given that 21% BS are in STEM and 8% BS in humanities, I say the ratio would say that a humanities major doesn't really give you a positive effect on the world. The only reason STEM has a visible impact is that.
1. There's more STEM.
2. The stuff they do have way more concrete impact in general

I mean, take a look at the four people causing a lot of problems using tech.

Elon Musk. - drop out of PhD, bs in physics.
Sam Altman - compsci college dropout
Zuckerberg - college dropout.

Well, comp-sci major strung along the big tech people for them to pour money into their pet project.
Probably didn't expect it to blow up that big and potentially causing a societal wide crisis.
Seems to be a common theme among STEM. "People can't be that stupid, can they?" *Things breaks because*

I would go one step further and say that a lot of modern problems are caused by not understanding the tech, not by tech not understanding humanities (maybe at most not understanding that people in general are stupid)?
