I stand in support of educators and families, and hope for a timely, fair resolution to this difficult situation. Unfortunately, this is more than a labour dispute, it reflects a profound failure of leadership by the United Conservative Party. From the outset, the UCP treated negotiations as a political battle rather than a good-faith process. Standard practice is to maintain confidentiality in order to preserve trust and foster compromise. Instead, the UCP broke that trust, rushing to the media with a distorted version of events designed to sway public opinion. At the same time, they launched a coordinated advertising campaign vilifying teachers. The timing and messaging make clear this was a pre-planned strategy, not an honest effort to find solutions. After provoking educators, the government tabled an offer they knew would be rejected-then used that rejection to justify further attacks. Meanwhile, they unveiled a cabinet-approved childcare subsidy plan costing an estimated $200 million per month, clearly timed to coincide with the strike and shift the narrative. Let's be clear: it is the UCP, not teachers, using children as political pawns. Instead of investing in classrooms and improving outcomes, they spend public dollars on division and distraction. Their goal to "break the teachers" is about control, not resolution. That money could have been better spent where it matters most: reducing class sizes, hiring more educational assistants, and providing targeted student support. At its core, this isn't about fixing education-it's about waging war on Alberta's teachers, students, and public education system, just as they've already done in healthcare.

Here’s my current WIP for #ShowMeYourKnits (started it a week ago for a road trip, and frogged 3X…2X for disliking the colour mixing (added in some yellow yarn in order to not play yarn chicken), and one final time when I realized I’d done all my yarn overs backwards. All deets in ALT TEXT.

My current wip in honour of Pride month. A rainbow shawl lays bundled on a lap. A red stripe, orange stripe, and green stripe show. Pattern: Boom by Plays with Fibre Yarn: Wee County Yarns Kinross 4 ply (Rainbow Braid Mini-Skeins) I just purchased this souvenir yarn on a wonderful trip to Scotland last month. I found it at The Yarn Cake in Glasgow. A shaved, grey “Schnoodle” wears a cabled sweater. The main body is purled, with 1 x 1 ribbing around the edges, neck, and leg cuffs. A cable runs down the middle of the back. The sweater is a variegated orange and yellow colour. #ShowMeYourKnits this week is DK weight. I rarely use DK, worsted and fingering yarn are my jam. Soooo my skeet this week is the same as a few weeks ago, just with more progress. ALT of quoted photo has all pattern and yarn details.

“Gifts” is this week’s #ShowMeYourKnits theme. Most of my knits are gifts (& have been posted before), so I’ll post my current WIP. It’s a lapghan for a coworker who just eloped & bought her 1st home. The white is for her wedding dress, and the taupe matches her spouse’s wedding tie. Deets in ALT.

Grey for #ShowMeYourKnits and I have more than I thought. Gift card—igan was a year-end teacher gift. Sweater was made for my eldest as a child. Cowl was a test knit & gifted to my mom. The final cardigan was made for eldest as a child, & thieved by youngest shortly after completion. Deets in ALT.

It’s been 2yrs since I was last able to knit & I’ve been making up for it over the past 2 wks. 1st is baby tunic just off the needles but needing ends woven & blocking. 2nd is a sock from the tunic leftovers. 3rd is a swatch of 1st attempt at brioche. Deets in alt txt.

Knits for baby is this week’s #ShowMeYourKnits theme.
Debbie Bliss Duffel Coat from the book Cashmerino 3. Photo colour is “off”, but it’s a dark brown, hooded, double-breasted baby sweater with a single crochet trim in a mainly yellow multicoloured yarn. The four buttons are also yellow. Made for the baby sibling of one of my kids’ karate friends. This sweater was my nemesis; I’ve never been so glad to get a project completed, lol! The start of a Beekeeper’s Quilt by Tiny Owl Knits. Yarn used was just stashed bits and bobs of leftover sock yarn. Made for a coworker/friend’s first baby. The picture shows 13 multicoloured “hexipuffs” joined together and laying flat on a leg dressed in grey sweats. A “hexipuff” is a stuffed, knit, hexagon shape. When joined together, they made a very light and squishy, but warm pram blanket. A “Baby Socks” by Socks Street sock lays flat on the arm of a navy blue couch. The sock is made from self-striping/jacquard yarn. It is teal blue, light green, light pink, pink and white jacquard, and red. I made many pairs of these baby socks in many different sock yarns for a dear friend (who was a doula) to put into her post-delivery gift baskets.

Colourwork for this week’s #ShowMeYourKnits!

My very first colourwork attempt! A pair of Fair Isle mittens lie flat, side by side on a dark wood floor. They are ivory, and the all over fair isle pattern is done with a multicoloured yarn. I made these for myself, but my then nine year old claimed them. Her teacher admired them, so I made a second pair as a gift, and made a third pair that I finally got to keep for myself. Pattern is Migration, by Lisa Sanchez. Yarn is Misty Alpaca Hand paint sock (colour: Reggaeton), and Patons North America Silk Bamboo (colour: Ivory). Double knit Star Wars scarf in black and white. The white side shows the Death Star in black, and the black side shows guns, helmets, and ships. This scarf was an absolute labour of love (made for my then 12 year old) and is VERY long. It remains one of my longest projects to date, and took me five months to complete. He’s now in his twenties and still has it. Pattern is Star Wars Double Knit Scarf, by Jessica Goddard. Yarn is Caron Simply Soft Solids. A black, white, and grey touque lays flat on a dark wood floor. The first stripe is grey ribbing, the second is black with white tie fighters, third is grey with black lettering (The Force Aw… is visible), fourth is white with black storm trooper masks, and the very top of the hat is grey. It was made as a gift for a beloved teacher of the 12 year who received the double knit scarf. Pattern is The Force Awakens Hat, by Mrs. Luedeke (on Ravelry). Yarn was stashed Caron Simply Soft Solids.

Alberta Health Services Memo 17Mar2025 Key Changes (Eff. 01Apr2025): • Emergency Depts (EDs): A reduced list of essential nourishment items will be provided to sites based on clinical needs. Patient Food Services (PFS) leaders will implement these changes with ED leaders at each site. Meal trays will remain available for all Emergency Inpatients (ElPs). To ensure consistency and improve efficiency, some areas may be required to order certain supplies directly from CPSM instead of from PFS. • Non-Inpatient Areas: PFS will no longer supply food to non-inpatient areas, such as DI, Endo, IV Clinics, etc. Exceptions include Day Surgery, Eating Disorder Clinics, & Swallowing Assessment Clinics where therapeutic items are required for clinical testing. Additionally, hypoglycemia kits will no longer be supplied; glucose tablets should be obtained from Pharmacy as needed. • Calgary Zone Urgent Care Centres: A reduced list of essential nourishment items will be available to support clinical requirements at each applicable site. Patient care is our top priority, and this initiative ensures that resources are allocated efficiently while maintaining high standards of care. By streamlining food and supply distribution, we can focus on core patient needs and enhancing operational effectiveness. Departments must adhere to the established core lists and refrain from requesting additional items from any other source. We recognize that some patients may spend extended time in our facilities & expect or require access to food. Clinics are encouraged to remind patients to bring snacks, meals, or money for food purchases & including a reminder about food in appointment communications may help patients prepare accordingly. Most sites have vending machines or on-site retail food services, & staff can provide info on nearby food options. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact your local PFS Manager. Thank you for your collaboration & support in implementing these changes.

This week’s #ShowMeYourKnits theme is GREEN! I’m gonna go wayyyyy back to 2010, when I picked up the knitting needles for the first time since I was a kid. This was a hat & sweater set for a coworker’s first baby-to-be. I had enough yarn leftover to also knit a matching blanket. Deets in Alt Text.

Snuggly Wuggly yarn by Loops & Threads in pink, yellow, and green. A baby blanket lays flat on a brown ottoman. It is made out of the same yarn as the hat and sweater. It has horizontal variegated stripes that were made by holding two different colours of yarn together when knitting. The stripes alternate between green/yellow and pink/yellow except for one wide pink/green stripe near the bottom. The left half of the blanket is all purl stitches and the right side is stockinette. I made these for a Holiday gift exchange at work. A pair of variegated/stripe-y slippers lay on a brown hardwood floor. They have ivory, light brown, dark brown, and dark hunter green colours. The cuffs come up to the lower calf. Pattern is #116 Mukluks by Diane Soucy and the yarn is Loops & Threads Charisma in the Deep Woods Colourway. I made 6 pairs of these in different colours for Christmas gifts in 2013.
