Taking the sociopath instead of the high road.
I get to go back to work on Monday (the reality is that I could have returned this past Thursday [11/13], but I had prior obligations), and I’m glad, but we’re seeing the end of federally funded research. So, I return to a death spiral and get to see the end of an era. Not happy.

My school didn’t have a football team, and I’m not a big sports games person, but how much do I love the stuff that goes on for college football games? Go, Dukes! @jamesmadisonuni.bsky.social

Got a new phone, forgot my password, and it was raining this morning. But I got back in, and I saw a very large pug today, so despite the nonsense coming at us, it’s all good.

This has gotta be because the HUD secretary lives nearby, right? Seems like some noble bullying could prevent this tragedy

If I could have walk-on music every day on my way into the office, it would be “Oh,Yeah” by Yellow. Or “Battle without Honor or Humanity.”

This is awful. We will be losing generations of researchers. I hope this administration is happy.
Amid DOGE-induced turmoil, National Science Foundation is in crisis
The $9 billion agency, which exists solely to fund researchers, projects and facilities outside its Alexandria, Virginia, headquarters, is hitting pause on its mission.

Today marks the 115th commencement for my alma mater (I think), so here is me hoping for the best for the class of 2025 - go, Eagles of Mary Washington! Go do good deeds!

Most Americans frequently use federal science information. But few are concerned that cuts to federal science spending could affect their access to such information, a new poll finds.

Off Facebook for almost two weeks now and honestly? Not missing it. Here are pictures from the Evelyn Carrier Arboretum at JMU. Go on with your bad selves.

Sometimes, I just want to sit on my duff and eat an entire block of sharp cheddar, but the universe has other plans.

People exhaust me. Here’s a picture of my camellias - they’re almost done blooming, so I guess they’re exhausted, too. Go, Wednesday!

Just removed a tick from this lovely girl and she was calm about the whole thing. A first for me - thank goodness for the Google and “how to remove a tick.”

This guy has been hanging around (outside) my office window for a week now. I see him as a source of hope - if he can hang in there, so can I.

My dentist is in Old Town, Alexandria, and while the fam is getting clean teeth and X-rays, I go to the country’s oldest farmers’ market. And see this, and hope this rebel is still going.

Some days for celebrating are obvious - holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, retirements - and some are quiet, but still significant. As of roughly 9:32, I am fully eligible to retire. Go, me.

Also, these are some conch shells I saw this morning on my way back from the Alexandria Farmers’ Market.

If you look closely enough, you can see a heart. Like mine, it’s broken for my fellow Feds who have wrongly been terminated for unfathomable, hubristic reasons. For what it’s worth, I believe in karma.
