Ford is already leveraging VW's platform for making some of their BEVs, and apparently has a partnership with Renault to do the same, if they're partnering with Stellantis as well then it does feel like they're throwing in the towel a bit, but stopping short of pulling out of Europe entirely.

Certainly painful for Ford. That's neat about Scout! I'm not so sure it's happening in Europe, although that might be more subjective, instead PHEVs are getting more capable (.e.g 30 mile -> 60 mile electric range), without quite feeling like they're making the jump to being classified as EREVs.

Thank you! Do you know if that's more of a US phenomenon? In China EREVs appear to have stabilised, but I see a lot of excitement in the US - Ford will switch to it for the Lightning, Scout, RAM have one in the works, does make a lot of sense there (big vehicles, poor aero, long distance, towing).

@respectmyplanet.bsky.social do you know if there's been any updates to that data? I'm quite interested in following automaker plans for making fuel cell hydrogen cars, but I haven't been able to find anything close to the data in the screenshot you provided.

This user had some data (unfortunately not public) about BMW's iX5 FCEV production volumes of 38,763 (not sure why the figure is so specific), although it lists production in the US whereas AutoCar specifies production will be in Austria. Curious. bsky.app/profile/resp...
Here's a list of companies by country and their planned production of hydrogen vehicles. I'm sure this won't matter to you though Bruce. You seem determined to believe what you want to believe.

Well within UK and EU guidelines, but not within California's much *much* stricter guidelines.

It is similar to the amounts found in other foods. It may well be good to reduce the amount in Huel and our foods, but this isn't some huge contamination issue with Huel/etc.

Hope that's helpful, I've learned something, and it doesn't look like the voltage will be an issue - happy days!

So the good news is that unless models with solid state batteries have a pack voltage of >1000V (I can't find any claims they would), then they'll be able to use the existing charging network, although the experience at Tesla chargers is likely to be poor for now (unless they split the pack). Phew!
October 15, 2025 at 9:07 AM
Interestingly Mercedes was going to sell its first 800V model - the CLA - without this functionality (except as an optional extra) in most markets because they thought 1000V networks were widespread enough, but they backtracked after an outcry.

Tesla have started deploying 1000V compatible chargers

Reading up on this, an 800V EV can charge at a 400V charger in a couple of ways. Lucid and Ioniqs do it by using the motor as an inverter, although this results in some quite slow charging speeds, while the Hummer EV and Cybertruck split the pack in two, essentially treating it as two 400V packs

Isn't this Daniel Williams an anti-semite? CC @keithdpatch.com @honestcanadian.bsky.social @tixhonjm.bsky.social as you also follow him and may be unaware.

Account name is slightly different, but it is the same person. Unsurprisingly they have had a few accounts now as they get banned occasionally.

Vehicles like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 which have been around for a few years are marketed as 800V, Lucid has 1000V.

Most national charging operators appear to support up to 1000V, e.g. Electrify Canada. The main outdated/400V limited operator appears to be Tesla.

Doesn't look too bad.

What's the voltage it would use that would be incompatible with existing chargers?
October 12, 2025 at 9:50 AM
Why not?
October 11, 2025 at 8:05 AM
In what sense would existing charging infrastructure be obsolete?
