I had fun chasing this set in 2017 when the HOFers could still be had for a couple of bucks. Of course, my only real requirements for condition was "In one piece, with nothing growing on it"

I wasn't even thinking of them, although that's an excellent example. I was thinking of Major League Cricket (6 teams playing mainly in the DFW area) and the 2022 season of the USFL (played entirely in Birmingham)

I was expecting that all of the games would be played in just one or two locations, it seems to be a common strategy for leagues started over the past 5-or-so years... but Springfield sounds like fannies in the seats is not even remotely a priority

Dal's nickname also got fine-tuned 😀

I hadn't realized they'd been discontinued, but its not like I've been looking for them

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words! These days I need all of the blogging encouragement I can get 🙂

You should have been able to leave a comment using an email address, but I'll take a look at the settings

Hadn't thought about it this way, but true

Brian Milner has as many Topps (or O-Pee-Chee) cards as Major League Games.

He was on "Blue Jays Future Stars" cards in 1981 and 1982, and played in 2 games in June of 1978

Feel free to shoot holes in my rosters.

"Cross him off, then."

I scoured lists of animals native to Florida and decided to go with Miami Flamingos. I was originally going to give the 'F' a flamingo beak, but wasn't satisfied at several attempts.

I wanted a traditional "Sox" name but found the original "Sun Sox" and "Super Sox" kinda lame.

I came up with the Orlando Orange Sox instead. Is it better? Not really, but I don't care.

The Bradenton Explorers moved to Daytona Beach for the 2nd season. I moved them back to Bradenton

The St. Petersburg Pelicans were the champions in the first season and had the best record when the league folded during the 2nd season

I assembled four 15-man rosters: 8 position players, 3 starting pitchers, 4 relievers.

I always thought several of the SPBA team names were kinda stupid, so I used two SPBA team names I liked, then created two of my own stupid team names

I went into this with intention of playing some #StatisPro games with the assembled rosters, but I ran into an unexpected problem with shortstops. Since most infielders move away from short when they get into their late 30s, there weren't a lot of options at short if I were to use recent stats

I wonder how many Latino players would be involved in an effort like this. Would they would bypass the Senior League in order to play in one of the Caribbean Winter Leagues like Robinson Canó does?
November 16, 2025 at 5:27 PM
I ruled out players who appeared in any Major League games in 2025, although I'd think that some free agents might use the Senior League to show they can still play

In general, I tried to stick to players who were between 35 and 45 years old
November 16, 2025 at 5:27 PM
I started by ruling out retired players who had jobs in the Majors or Minors. I figured that Buster Posey has better things to do. I had been considering Craig Stammen for one roster, and then he got hired as the San Diego Padres manager [insert shrug here]

We'll start with the rules in place for the original league.

Players had to be at least 35 years old, but catchers could be as young as 32.
