As much as I complain about BBC News, I do like that they’re one of the few news outlets that actually bothers to explain the nonsense song and dance behind “sources close to” stories
We’ve been reporting a lot about “briefings” from allies of Keir Starmer that he is going to fight any attempt to challenge his leadership. But what is a briefing exactly? It is not nearly as grand as it sounds. It’s basically people in top jobs who want to get a message out but are not willing to put their name to it. They will speak "off the record". We then have to decide whether to report that or not. In an ideal world, everybody would be on the record. But, in politics, there is often a big difference between what someone will say on camera and what they are saying behind the scenes. So we end up with "friends of" or "sources close to" or "briefings" or sometimes "the BBC understands". It can make Westminster sound like a secret society, and is no doubt off putting to a lot of our audience, but if we just reported things that were on the record, we would only be telling half the story.

The main menu of the 825 prototype has a render of Sonic where he appears walleyed

The interesting thing is that this is actually the correct render for the model, it just looks bad from this angle. So in the final they just manually redrew his pupils rather than alter the model

There are "sims" like SimCity, which seek to be taken semi-seriously as semi-scientific primers to urban planning for educational use in schools. Yet the original SimCity simulated crime primarily as "distance from a police station" and nudged its players into libertarian-style low taxation pro-sprawl strategies. These aren't scientific models, these are political arguments.
