When safe, effective vaccines exist, testing updated versions (e.g., annual flu/COVID shot) by giving some participants a placebo is withholding treatment and thus is unethical. Immunobridging is used instead to evaluate the updated version. 🛟😷 medsky
Why placebos don’t belong in vaccine trials
Volunteers in vaccine trials help drive medical breakthroughs, but they don’t always get the real shot. In early studies, some received a placebo, a harmless injection with no active ingredient,

Colorectal Cancer Prevention: What You Need to Know
Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable — and treatable — cancers, but only if it’s caught early. Alarmingly, rates of colorectal cancer are rising, especially in younger adults. As a physician and advocate for cancer prevention, I recently had the opportunity to speak with ESPN to help raise awareness about this critical issue. Early Detection Saves Lives Routine screening can detect colorectal cancer in its earliest stages — sometimes even before symptoms appear.

I had the great privilege of serving in the EIS Class of 2015, responding to dozens of disease outbreaks and novel health threats.

The program is a crowned jewel of U.S. public health and a model for other countries.

Cutting this program does not, in any way, make our country healthier.
You know Kate Winslet in Contagion? Where she runs into a hot zone, risking her life, so Americans could be safer?

She was an EIS officer. That’s who was just fired at CDC today. EIS officers. And many, many more public servants fighting every day for your health.

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.

Most Americans still have no idea about how F'd this country is about to get. I think if they knew it would be too overwhelming to process so they prefer maintaining the delusion, "It won't be that bad."

It'll be very bad, folks. Hold on to your butts.
