Retired NHS nurse, book lover, Rambler, Brummie, and frustrated writer. Currently busy despairing about the state of world, its politics and climate. This might be why I drink too much.
I would debate whether this is remotely shocking though

Isn't it more like fascism in the UK?

To me it is like the Starmer supporters are just in a huge state of denial about the terminal decline they have got the Labour Party into. I can see future historians looking back on this decade as being significant because it was when Johnson destroyed the Tories and Starmer destroyed Labour

Well said Phil, they are just evil.

As some one in the middle of our bin strike today's develoment suggest that the council are more to blame. The agency workers booked to cover the strike have voted to strike as well because of bullying and workloads

I did say it was stupid to be optemistic but I'll give it a bit more time before I cave into total despair. Sarah Owen is elected to her post on equalities which suggests she may have support. The Labour Party is dead no doubt but I'd love to see this policy die before it gets anywhere
November 17, 2025 at 7:08 PM
I know it is stupid to be optomistic about the PLP but a positive thing is not the number but the type of MPs complaining. They are all the Clive Lewis'. You got Stella Creasy writing a damning opinion peice in the Guardian, Sarah Owen (head of equalities comm) No usual suspects - might be trouble
November 17, 2025 at 6:56 PM
60 seconds after I posted that I see a post new to me showing Sarah Owen's has criticised the policy outright. Apologies for doing her a disservice
November 17, 2025 at 1:35 PM
Yes ... and she described the jewellery confiscation idea as repugnent and 'seems' to be against the whole policy without clearly saying that from the little I have seen. It'll be interesting to see how this develops
November 17, 2025 at 1:32 PM
I was going to make the same point, if it was 'just' Clive Lewis etc the leadership could laugh it off. When the likes of Stella Craesy are damning the policy in an article for the Guardian it suggests there might be a large amount of widespread oppostion in the PLP.

Even living through Thatcher and Johnson's times I have never felt so disgusted by a government.
November 17, 2025 at 11:44 AM
Yeah I thought I'd never hate a politician more than I hate Streeting, but Mahmood has proved me wrong. They are all vile anyway, just sick people.
November 17, 2025 at 10:06 AM
Disgusting, just vile.
November 17, 2025 at 8:33 AM
For me season 2 was a bit of a let down. If you think the same don't let it put you off, the third one is just a fantastic finale.
November 17, 2025 at 12:52 AM
Pardon me for sounding cryptic (I want to avoid spoilers to encourage people to watch Broadchurch) but the final interview between Olivia Coleman's character and the killer is just mind blowingly perfect in every way.
November 17, 2025 at 12:50 AM
I hope you are right, but my former parties MPs have shown a terrible weakness in bending to the leadership.Though if this awful policy is shot down I concede it could lead to the Starmer faction really losing control which would be a massive sign of hope for the party and the country.
November 16, 2025 at 11:14 PM
Sorry but as a former long term Labour Party member I can only say any good party candidates need to defect to another party. The Shabana Mahmood asulym policy is just ugly and evil. No decent person can be associated with it.
November 16, 2025 at 11:07 PM
FFS Shabana Mahmood is part of the ‘dark forces are stirring up anger’ over migration.
November 16, 2025 at 11:00 PM
Yes we are stuck with them, and never in my 65 years have I felt more fearful of what a government might do. I don't think they are all fascists, it just seems they are too stupid to see they are enabling fascism.
